China did not spend 20 years murdering people in the Middle East, resulting in the death and displacement of millions.

You mean how Americans are despised for their murders in the Middle East?

Non-American here: I lived in the Bay Area for a few years and hated it. There are no cities, just one big blob of suburbia.

This is why centralized services are a bad idea.

I don't like that Patreon takes a cut. So I just sent the developer a bank transfer.

I hate modern apps. They are bloated, slow, buggy and not at all customizable. Something went wrong in the last 10 years.

Today's services are indeed much more sophisticated, but not necessarily better. This is because better and cheaper hardware made people sloppy, not because we have much better services.

Technology is making us more productive. If your metric tells you it isn't so, then your metric is wrong.

I love these apps, they are great. I donated to the developer and really recommend doing the same.

Wasn't the Turkish Bayraktar drone also involved in the sinking of Moskva? Not to rain on the "feel-good" parade, but Moskva was laid down in 1976 and launched in 1979. It was older than most people on HackerNews. Don'

I never understood why Netflix is assumed to be more convenient. There are illegal streaming websites with better UI and user experience than Netflix.

This is also my experience. Pipewire is better than Android or Mac.

Care to back that up with data? The link above is demonstrating the opposite.

This is really great news. Pipewire made great progress in the last few years. It solves a lot of problems I had with Bluetooth headsets in PulseAudio.

If this statistics is true, then Google is removing lots and lots of legitimate apps. This is exactly why a monopoly is bad. 90% is nowhere close enough accuracy for such a system.

I'm sideloading apps. So I care about it. Apple won't get a single cent from me unless they allow sideloading.

The stuff about APIs is nonsense. The app works fine. It's better and more secure that Google's own email client. The problem is Google has no place making these decisions. This is textbook anticompetitive behaviour. The devel

This is exactly where you need regulation. EU can force Google to to create sane policies for removal, or even fine Google when they do stuff like this.

In Android one can at least sideload apps. You can't do that with Apple. I have almost as many apps sideloaded in my phone as apps from Google's play store.

Google doesn't give a f. That's what is happening. This is what happens when you are a monopoly and there are no competitiors in your space. To simply stop caring about being good.
