Yes, Real Estate can be a really flawed inflation hedge, and the relationship between rental yields and interest rates can also deviate sharply from conventional wisdom. Here in Brazil, although inflation is typically in the 4-10% range per

Interesting. Zoom has held its own well against Teams, but I'm not sure Notion has reached comparable escape velocity / sufficiently strong network effects yet. With well-funded Coda on one side and now Microsoft Loop on the other

I've often found the need to refer to Facebook, Apple, Google but excluding Amazon, Netflix, Microsoft (ie in the context specifically of consumer internet, mobile, social but not ecommerce, b2b or streaming), but have shied away from

I am surprised that at ~100 comments the likes of Notion, Coda, TiddlyWiki haven't come up. Wouldn't you consider Notion and Coda NoCode? TiddlyWiki I see as more experimental so that simply might not be a 'sensible' pla

Agree. Whether a business (or solution to a problem) is interesting, ingenious and innovative is a completely different matter from its being a good business. iirc warren buffet once said, "if it takes a calculator to figure out if it&

Not sure if the article is telling the whole story, but if so this seems really unfair for society and really good for company owners. Because it's one thing when a big conglomerate takes on financial debt in a subsidiary - the banks a

I'm not sure I follow. You're saying the previous employer doesn't want the laid-off employee to get a new job? I guess that would vary ex-post (eg depending on the reason for the firing, and the industry - a professional ser

That varies by jurisdiction and this wasn't in the US. Even if free were illegal it could have been minimum wage. But I think you're right in that it doesn't fit in well with established processes (HR, etc)

Yes, certainly depends on context. If it's a job that involves a lot of clear, compelling communication, such as management, marketing or even design, it makes more sense than for 'pure' programming. Having said that, unfortu
