There’s IoT as well. A lot of iot devices rely on gsm sms and low-speed data transmissions; that’s not easy to maintain over 4g/5g even for data only (no voice) iirc.

Will this really happen? Or will the US prevent Europe from doing that by saying “then defend from Russia all by yourself?”

Personal opinion: I think more sync work is needed even when remote. Making all work async makes things harder, not working remotely.

Honest question: in which way does productivity improve? Is that measurable? Or is that just a well-being feeling for meeting colleagues IRL? In day to day remote work do you work together, or is it fully async with some chat-only meetings?

I think it's a platitude, but of course a "non-restricted hybrid" is the best choice, so when you want to work from home you just do, and when you prefer to go the office you go there. Full remote is not for everyone. Full ti

Not a US citizen here so I may miss some nuances. I’d think the “tourist VISA” part makes sense after all. The “work VISA” part is strange, as you say. If I’m on a 15 days business trip, could make sense. If on a multi-year H1B… well, it su

Explict OverflowException could be ok but it may not tell me the root cause. A random index error is not ok at any time.

> certain scale Make it explicit. If the array is too large, throw an IllegalArgumentException. Document the limit. Then I agree with you. Otherwise, if an allowed input crashes the program at runtime with a random exception, I respectfu

But if you have ssh clients on both machines, you can use port forwarding to allow machine2 to connect to machine1 via ssh. Or you can connect both machines to the "SSH stun server" (which is something like the beam host if I unde

why? A single process can bind to multiple ports. I don't know what's the hard limit actually, or how much memory it would use. Probably a port redirect would just be simpler.

Sort of serverless Kafka, which natively uses object storage and promises better latencies than things like warpstream.

You probably mean rs232 anyway, I see no reason for an rs485 network here.

And yet Monterey is EOL. Very few apps still support it. I wonder if it's just something that wasn't tested exactly for that reason.

I need to disagree, as I think JSF to be a rather clunky approach, but I admit I never used PrimeFaces.

If Rails is fast enough, I doubt plain old Java on a standard JVM is slower. We’re talking comprehensive and productive web stack, not raw speed, otherwise we go back to the Go and Rust case.

I must say that even if it’s not a trendy stack, I find Spring Framework/Spring Boot to be the best all-around web application stack. Very easy integration with the tons of java libs you have around that can do virtually anything, a st

If you want to prevent sb else to offer it as an hosted service without releasing source code, AGPL could work. But sb could still sell your app by just distributing its source code along.

I’m not sure about how this is happening. Transmit is a desktop app - or does it have a cloud hosted component? If it’s a desktop app, it should be possible to generate an api key and pass it to the desktop app, that’s it. Google doesn’t kn

Not something that requires HA, backups, scaling, auditing, logs, security, and such, though. Would you run your prod inference cluster the same way?

I’m far from being an expert in trademark law (esp. US trademark law). But I think WP Engine could be more clear about their usages of such trademarks. I work for a company (aiven.io) which offers hosted services mostly for OSS products.

I think the subscription model needs to be refined. 500$/year (invented amount) for a Photoshop subscription that I’ll use 3 times in a year? But when I want it, I need photoshop, not $SOMETHINGELSE. Sell me a $5/day license and

Valkey is just the way to go. No real reasons to stay with Redis. Valkey is supported by multiple industry players and by the Linux Foundation.

I think that what the user implies here is that the email address (rather than the password) was leaked. Maybe the password was just weak. But there’s not enough evidence. But the account is from Jan 2013. Maybe not bcrypt yet. If password
