Three things recently: 1) I made a Slack app in my spare time to help with a thing at work. Jumped through the hoops in the Slack marketplace, and then it was live (Dibs On Stuff). A few people at work used it and that was great! Solved the

As someone who is trying to run a vaguely similar service (streetmates.net) I'm wondering how communities can be guided to be constructive and pleasant. Or maybe people are just people, pleasant and unpleasant and everything else, and

That's sort of how it works. You request the conch, and if no-one else has it then it's yours. Otherwise you're in the queue, waiting... always waiting, until finally the conch falls from your predecessor's grip - and yo

Made this thing, curious if it can actually be useful to anyone. A problem is happening at work with contention for a particular resource (a pre-production demo environment). The developers have to continually negotiate taking turns to occu

That's almost similar to what I'm aiming for. But it (nextdoor) seem very keen to validate an exact person's house address. Not sure how I feel about that. I started signing up and kind of got turned off by the house address

Does that mean you'd need to have their phone number first, like everyone would need to be a WhatsApp contact? I guess my approach is aimed more toward casual acquaintances, where you might not know the people on your street very well

Yeah I'm in two minds about obtaining the precise street address. On the one hand there is actually nothing to stop you just entering a street name and omitting your residence number - I think it will still setup the notice board and e

Hey that's so nice to get a bit of support. Thank you. Yeah, I feel like whatever it ends up looking like, it's going to have to be kept super simple/accessible. Wondering about the traction problem too - but I guess, there&#

Why not just make it non-gender specific? The female pronouns and imagery really distracts.

Just released a spin-off of an open source project that I've contributed to for a few years. Still scratching my head trying to get some traffic. Create and manage issues/tickets via email, web, CLI or API. Very mature web interface. Very c

Well it would seem that the logical next step is going to be giving it a way to provide permanence to the data. That generally means online storage, but there might be other ways that are more in keeping with your offline approach... or may

It's might also be worth checking out allocPSA.com, also open source, and has a similar ticketing email gateway thingo... and a little tiny bit more functionality. (I'm very biased though :-)

Huh. I guess that does clang a bit. I suppose the more frequently used approach is to sell sell sell, raise expectations, and then drop the curtain and reveal the pricing. Thanks for the tip, will think about how I can re-work it.

Thanks Yunus. The design is definitely pretty bare ... TODO. I'm not so sure about giving it APIs, I think the target market will be mainly non-technical. But I suppose given an API, the application could perhaps be leveraged in ways that I
