HSA != FSA. The former is a savings/investment account that lets you keep your money year over year, to be used for medical expenses. FSA's are use-it-or-lose it. HSA's are typically paired with a particular type of high-deductible insuran

I did say "pretend." I'm not interested in debating DC statehood, rather I am interested in a good user experience. In my case, I actually live in Maryland, yet I had to pull up Virginia to find my metro area.

Just an FYI for those in DC: on that calculator, Washington is listed under the state of Virginia. Geographic boundaries are tricky business, but c'mon, CNN. You could at least pretend District of Columbia is a state.

With a name like "Political Screaming Match," do you think he's after rounded, reasoned debate? This sounds like it's mostly for some laughs. I think it's a fun idea.

It doesn't matter whether gauged by the month or year. It's a percentage. If they have 99.97% uptime every month for a year, they'll still have 99.97% uptime for the year.

I only skimmed PEP 405, but did anybody get a sense for how this would work with regard to managing different versions of Python per virtualenv? It seems like a tool to do that necessarily has to be higher in the stack than the Python inter

No, you're not the only one. It brings to mind an awkward, overly public marriage proposal. Not something I'd want to be on the receiving end of. And if the other party turns them down, the rejection is just that much more awkward.

The new front page design smacks of those spammy "10 AMAZING Photos of [fill in the blank]" sites which steal other people's content and don't properly attribute it. I can't bring myself to click on any of the stacks; I just want to avert m

On the other hand, if you live in a first-tier city, this makes the au pair program that much of a better deal (see my other comment on au pairs), as you get a first-tier salary, and their pay is federal minimum wage. It's too bad for the a

I used to think that a parent's care was unequivocally the best childcare, but I no longer believe that to be true. As the mother of a four month old who has had 95% of her care provided by either me or my husband working from home, and 5%

A simple example: if I wrote a function, add(x, y), I would want to test that it behaved as expected. So, I'd write a test (among others) to assert that add(4,5) returned 9. I would also test things like add(null, 5) to make sure that my co
