valgrind had a bunch of stuff like massif, callgrind and memcheck but none of them (AFAIK) tell you how long a function call took, and point out the area of code taking too much time, which perf does.

I have been running multiple programs on my DO vps, my uptime is 305 days. 1 program was updated in Feb to accommodate an API change another was updated in Dec 2014. It's amazing how good they perform with minimal memory usage.

You think this is bad? try reading the code submitted during coding competitions (hackerrank, google's code jam). lots of macros to do operations quickly, the code is not even readable.

i tried to push some code and was getting DNS resolution errors so i started using google DNS, now everything works.
