Right I get why - but it's crazy to think that the vast majority of companies give up measuring the thing that everyone knows matters, especially when gearing your incentives around it should be better for everyone . (except low produ

That'd be very job-specific. It's probably misguided to aim for highly quantitative measurements. If productivity is measured as output per input, you have a lot of flexibility in how to define the relevant output - e.g. hitting w

Number of hours still seems like the wrong unit of measurement to me. Shouldn't companies care more about productivity?

I'm guessing that's Tesla specific? My Bolt doesn't have (afaik) an automatic cabin conditioning feature so I've never thought about it. Presumably Chevy built it with parts on spec to handle heat.

What's the argument against just relying on "cabin overheat protection" to keep the climate in spec? Seems like that would solve a lot of their supply chain limitations at once with relatively minimal battery drain - though i

I suspect most housing advocates would agree that the end goal isn't more affordable land - it's getting more affordable units on the market.

Worth remembering that housing (and I presume land) is far more expensive than it used to be. https://www.census.gov/hhes/www/housing/census/historic/valu...

Hot tip for startups: A lot of ppl who work for the big co.s (me included) live or have migrated to the east bay for housing over the years but hate the commute.

I'm curious why more bay area startups haven't come to Oakland. (maybe it's happening and it's just not obvious?) Always felt like there was plenty of potential office space relatively close to BART but maybe that's

You could call this the Wittgensteinian critique of the question.

The issue isn't that this approach won't be useful in building systems we can interact with linguistically. The problem is in describing the system as having learned a meaning . It might seem pedantic or like something only philo

That's a great way to put it! It doesn't mean the approach isn't useful for building systems that we can interact with linguistically, just that we shouldn't kid ourselves into thinking the model has captured meaning.

NLP via word associations might get you closer to capturing meaning in a Wittgensteinian conception than other methods (I happen to think the PI should be required reading for people studying NLP). But he would probably say the inputs into

Figuring out how to process context is important for NLP, no question. But I think this is probably wrong on Wittgenstein. I'm pretty sure his entire point in the Philosophical Investigations was that "meaning" is exactly NOT

I'd be interested in some of the math here - e.g. if you wanted to compare civ fitness - would you need to test every iteration of initial starting conditions? And then I wonder how that changes if the map is a hexagonal sphere...

It's not a totally crazy idea to set aside a small portion of your portfolio for a bunch of long-shot investments that have huge upside potential (isn't that how seed funding works?). But I think practically speaking it'd be
