Amazingly, Silver himself said it better than I did above: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/03/1154733/-Nate-Silve... Here's the quote on pundits saying the election is a toss-up: "then you should abandon the pretense that your goal

Such an objective approach like Silver's removes the market for the subjective narrative (convention bumps, opinion swings after gaffes, perception of the candidates, etc.) journalists rely on during the many months of campaigning. That's a

Could you expand on what your bad contracting experience was? And did you end up funding this project with contracting income over the last (almost) 2 years? Congrats on keeping it going!

This is the core problem; typical lack of long-term thinking when there is so much pressure for revenue. Too bad no one could think of a better idea than display ads.

This will happen once we have a federated social network with individuals maintaining their own little slice of the Internet. Please happen soon rather than later!

This is the ideal solution. All the better if the presenter makes the online version more concise than the in-person presentation.

Getting 1 in 12 onto your mailing list isn't bad (of course, the cost is too high for those 12 clicks, but still). How is it targeted to followers? Do they put the tweet in front of people that would care about it?

So true. The photographers need to get into the calendar making business or some other value-add beyond simply creating images.

This is the correct answer. Photographers--even more than musicians and journalists--are having a terrible time coming to terms with the new world. They seem to think they should be paid for their effort and expertise, rather than based on

Prices will just go up a bit across all items once this available in all/most stores, and the stores will stop relying on suckering us into buying a bit more than we want in order to keep their margins up. That's the small price we'll pay f

This is an excellent question. At the end of the day, the TSA exists as it does because the population is fearful of dying in an airplane explosion (even though these tactics don't much help prevent that), and there's no political cover wha

This describes his work well. Just go back and read the book that made him semi-famous: 21 Dog Years, Doing Time at Amazon.com I can't figure out how he's been able to keep a career going. Maybe this will--mercifully--be the end of it all.

This is great. By the time I was 9 or 10, I was frustrated that for all my playing with tools, reading, tinkering, etc., none of it was towards a practical goal. Finding a way to give kids real-life responsibilities in such an engaging way
