This is really cool, to the extent that I'm surprised I've never heard of it. Are universities still using it in coursework?

I'm curious about the hardware it runs on, and didn't immediately find answers on Google. Could you talk about what hardware is on a usual system and what device drivers need to do for screen, serial port, disk drives, etc.? Does

Ok then, agree to disagree. Not being aware of merely interesting work is not ignorance or a shame. One nonlinear phenomenon is not by default relevant to another. Checking what someone cited is "Science!" not Science.

Perhaps you could elaborate on some concrete benefits that reading up on some antecedents provide here. Has there been any work combining A-life with GoL? I've got some passing familiarity with the A-life literature, and I'm not a

Since software is so easy to change, nobody bothers verifying it. The more we put into software, the more room there is for cutting corners in testing because, "we can always send out a firmware upgrade later." Me, I'd rather

I'm in the market for this, albeit for different reasons. Perhaps coincidentally, right after Google announced ending their free storage their sync started acting up for me. Even though I'm a _paying_ customer. In that circumstanc

Yeah. The standard avoids obvious guarantees because of some computer you never heard of. And then compiler writers use the standard as license to mess with the guarantee on _your_ computer.

As a kind of extreme example, I've gone off and duplicated a whole computing stack because I think C is the wrong abstraction. For example, the way signed and unsigned numbers are defined in the C standard really over-complicates simpl
