I built a computer with its own languages, and I consider it to be _less_ cognitive load when everything is in 1/2/3 languages. I don't have to worry that the next program I want to read the sources will require "Go, Rus

Thanks for pointing this out. I see that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Centauri has a much better caption for the same image.

The fallacy here is attributing to a technique something that is just a property of a domain. The hallmark of intelligence is that it generalizes. Good results in one domain tell you something about the domain, but absolutely nothing about

This is the critical, falsifiable prediction, to my mind: Putin "understands that he cannot conquer Ukraine and integrate it into a greater Russia or into a reincarnation of the former Soviet Union. He can’t do that. What he’s doing in

I'm not an expert, but my understanding of the space is that Dependabot shows vulnerabilities in direct dependencies of a repo . After reading greysteil's sibling comment, though, I wonder if something like Snyk does everything

In the wake of Log4shell I've spent some time thinking about how we can streamline the recovery from such large bugs. I suspect a lot of eyes are on this area now. Do y'all have any plans here? Figuring out what services are impac

This is all valid. But like I said, it was always about social and PR pressure ( edit with reputable sites). (I was mistaken earlier when I thought it also had the force of law behind it.) That still has some, depreciating, value. To repea

Yeah, it's an idiotic, 1-dimensional proposition in a game of n-dimensional chess. Tech employees are competition for a company's profit after all the other companies trying to commoditize their complements ( https://www

It provides a modicum of social and legal enforcement. A website with any sort of brand risks legal and PR costs if they violate DNT. I'm happy for them to take that risk. Though I see now that the whole thing has fallen through since

I've been running NoScript for the past year. It's pretty nice once you get to a stable set of policies. I load mainstream media sites in incognito tabs with JavaScript enabled for the tab.

What do you enjoy about Gmail/cal? I don't see the point of that level of indirection in your setup. Fastmail seems indistinguishable from Gmail UI except I don't have crap on the left nav. And gcal is unreliable garbage, in
