Unfortunately, you really can’t tell in advance what fields you need. All these precious specialized tools are frustrating. Plain (-ish) text is flexible and searchable.

RHEL 8 is on Wayland by default. If you complain about any issues whatsoever, the personal support tells you to use X.Org.

The ‘projects’ section on the website has 3 projects. I wonder how widely the author uses this stack. ‘Personal SaaS’ is a weird category.

I don't want to spend $15. Does it just tell you to run vimtutor? It should just tell you to run vimtutor.

Try Magit. You’ll know whether it works for you. It clearly does for many people. Or fugitive in Vim. The difference is like that between using Ed and Vi. Seeing things as you do them is valuable.

“Critics mass” of whom? VS Code is very disappointing, given the hype. Can you give an example of something in the VS Code ecosystem that can impress an Emacs user enough to switch, beyond chrome? Chrome will always attract crowds, of cours

Mining and transporting coal is not free, and more expensive per MWh than nuclear fuel. Simply because of the volumes involved. How much will it cost to re-capture an contain the CO2 generated by coal and gas?

Why use five i3 windows, if you can use five Vim windows? That would make moving things around a lot easier.

Network transparency has grown a lot more important for me over the last few years. It’s not really network transparency, though, it’s more vm/container transparency: if your dev environment is in a vm, and includes anything graphical,

In Excel, intra-row and previous row are better handled by DAX (PowerPivot), than the grid as such. This is, of course, unique to desktop Excel. If you are at the point where you are building your own engine for that sort of thing, and have

Print-style control is not done in Word, it's done in Publisher. In typical office use, you'd want to enforce a firm-wide stylesheet, but Word makes that difficult by leaving too much control too easy to access: people continue to

It does indeed have a high monetary impact. Just look at Microsoft. I use PowerPivot and PowerQuery a lot. A job does not have to be particularly interesting for you to derive value from those two, practically any Excel-using job will do. E

Why would you switch to the terminal to use grep from Vim? :grep works perfectly well, and is more convenient than search in a flat file (better context for matches, quickfix list instead of n/N nonsense).

Ctrl-arrows is not the same thing as vim’s wordwise movement. If you need to go 5 words forward, it’s 5w ; if you want to capitalize the next 3 words, gU3w ; the point is composability, not a single operation. Same goes for f.
