I think there's tons of content that warrants criticism, but no content that warrants harassment.

That’s a wild argument, up there with “if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.” People should be able to produce and publish content without being harassed.

Becoming popular isn’t generally something an open source developer chooses to do or not do.

The only techniques I’ve seen that appear to be long term effective are: 1. Be a gruff asshole who just doesn’t engage with the community or give a shit what they say or want or think 2. Don’t publish your code, or publish it anonymously an

There's also a feature to let specific contacts bypass DND. My immediate family's calls are not affected by DND, and Pagerduty's calls come in as a critical notification.

Is somebody using the brand on something that isn't OBS? https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mozillateam/firefox/firefox.ja... is the config for what becomes Ubuntu's firefox package https://gitlab.

I think it is possible that OBS could make that nuanced argument in court: that what Fedora is doing here confuses consumers specifically because of how they stack multiple default repos and override the 1st party package. But it would hing

I think you're misunderstanding trademarks. As an example: if I buy a 12 pack of Coke, I can set up a table and sell them one can at a time. Trademarks require that I don't present that I'm sponsored by Coke, or label my non-

I mean, I think the right fix is just for Fedora to stop packaging their own version. But I think that's about being good people; I don't think there's a strong legal argument here for forcing Fedora to do that.

That's sort of the difference, isn't it? Debian forked Firefox and changed the code, so they had to rename it. But this doesn't look like changing the code, it's building it with different versions of its dependencies &#

Given that OBS is GPL licensed, any legal action would have to be trademark-based, right? It feels like they'd have a hard time making that case, since package repositories are pretty clearly not representing themselves as the owners o

The most common way I've seen this come up is for GPG signing of git commits. The flow is roughly: sign your first commit of the day -> you get a PIN popup, fill it in, and tap the Yubikey. Later in the day, you commit again -> y

I think the things you're calling out are accurate. There are more people, and especially more prominent/influential people, who are willing to press the seams of the justice system to use it for personal grievances or vendettas.
