"But previous studies didn't take into account the amount of time parents typically spent with their children on a daily basis." I'm saying the new finding that "more time -> better able to recognize" is also not surprising.

TL;DR: Parents, including fathers, who spend more time with their babies come to recognize their cries better. Not sure if that's really as counter-intuitive as the article suggests.

I'm surprised the ArchiveTeam / archive.org scrape of Punchfork before it was removed didn't also get a mention in all this mess. http://archive.org/details/archiveteam_punchfork

Did you even read the post, his point was that modern tools and frameworks make it easy today to do what once had to be done at a lower level.

"Over capacity" "The demo is limited to 16 concurrent instances and 2 libvirt connections. Due to these limitations we were unable to spawn a new instance to service your request. Please try again later." Um.

In case there's any confusion, the article's actual title is "Goodbye ubiquitous digital service" and uses the phrase "most ubiquitous RSS service of our time" as a euphemism for "Google Reader", hence the headline here.

Nice sleuthing, but if that were the case wouldn't the same problem be seen more broadly?

The location was shown ~70 km from where it actually is. Even an outdated map would get it closer than that.

~70 kilometres is quite a "variance".

"Empirically" still implies more formality than the purely anecdotal evidence presented here, unless there's more to it that pg is not sharing with us.

More text, yes, but not much more detail about the actual patents in question: "an Apple patent on technology that synchronizes music and videos between gadgets and servers."

I'd rather only have to deal with these 'high level only' folks vs the ones that literally could not code up a fizz buzz solution to save themselves. My biggest surprise is that people like this really do exist in the industry.

Um. The idea of rubber duck debugging is that you talk it through yourself before wasting another developer's time, as most of the time you can work it out on your own just by explaining the problem to an inanimate object.
