No it is not. The “first instruction in the BIOS” is 16 bit mode code when dealing with an x86 VM. A virtual environment doesn’t even really need any BIOS or anything like that. You can feel free to test with qemu direct kernel booting to s

Yes. The delay you’re complaining about happens because you are looking at general hypervisors which also come with virtualized hardware and need to mimic a bunch of stuff so that most software will work as usual. For example: your VM start

The answer is that it doesn’t have to be like that. In practice virtual machines are trying to emulate a lot of stuff that isn’t really needed but they’re doing it for compatibility. If one builds a hypervisor which is optimized for startup

One can definitely build a container runtime that uses virtualization to protect the host For example there is Kata containers https://katacontainers.io/ This can be used with regular `podman` by just changing the container

I like this a lot. The caveat is not that bad because anyway with stow or other solutions you still need to add things manually. I believe one could even add stuff like `!.bashrc` to the gitignore so it can keep track of these files automat

There is money to be made on consumer level OS. The reason people buy RHEL is because you can get support for any problems. Consumers are not gonna get that so they might as well just run CentOS Stream for example.

I think this approach predates Vue. I know of two examples: 1. Fedora in collaboration with GCC maintainers keep GCC on the bleeding edge so it can be used to compile the whole Fedora corpus. This validates the compiler against a set of pac

In many cases the build output also has hardcoded paths unfortunately so doing `brew install` inside a container with the proper volumes it’s not sufficient to fix the issue. Everything would have to run from within the container as well.

I see. I kind of assumed improving the C++ compiler required improving the C parts as well. VLA situation seems complex: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/55696680/in-which-versio...

How is fedora “closely tied to Gtk” in any way that it isn’t also “closely tied to Qt”? Fedora KDE is literally release blocking and has been approved for promotion to be on the same level as Fedora Workstation.

It’s the same thing for the purposes of capturing the build environment. It doesn’t really matter if you have to spin up a Linux instances and then run your build environment as a container there vs spinning up a windows VM.
