What sort of programming positions? I've done a fair amount of web development in PHP & Python (as well as introductory C++ & Java). I had to look up "linked list" on Google just to get some understanding of what that is.

Thanks for pointing that out. In this case though, I think you get what you pay for. Most of those don't look nearly as good as the Themeforest stuff. There's another site along these lines that used to be pretty good -- Open Source Web Des

From my cursory reading of the licensing, the key difference is that the Extended License allows you to distribute the theme with your app (the regular license would be limited to a hosted app). http://themeforest.net/wiki/support/legal-te

Oh man, you have no idea how helpful this is. I'm working on a web app myself, and design is my biggest hangup... I've thought about hiring someone, but not sure I can justify the expense. For some reason I didn't consider seeking out premi

I just started using MongoDB in a Python project; it shares a lot of the advantages (vs. SQL) mentioned in this presentation -- there's a natural mapping between the BSON in MongoDB and Python dicts. What are the pros & cons of Redis co

The top placement in Google search results for almost anything W3Schools covers is another sign that Google is broken, in my view. reference.sitepoint.com is a much better reference for anything they cover -- easier navigation, better prese

This paves the way for web frameworks and related utilities to finally make the move to Python 3. They were held back by WSGI. (that's my understanding anyway. I'm no expert.)

You're right, I was a bit hasty and didn't consider that. It sure does look like a function though, where other languages typically use {} or something similar.

More elegant and easier to type syntax.

Yep, array() is the icing on the cake. Why is the most common data structure in the language instantiated with a function? I could probably rant on PHP syntax all day long, but it's too off topic here.

Cool. Now why doesn't PHP join the crowd and do this with arrays already?

I had the exact same feeling when I first looked over HTML5 Boilerplate. The HTML itself isn't so exotic. But my eyes glaze over paging through all the CSS & JS. And then there's the .htaccess -- all sorts of black magic in there. Very

Bingo. This was definitely the case for a recent local freelancing/consulting job post; an associate took up the position and tipped me off to the Java/JavaScript mixup (though I don't think the post asked for X years experience). Something

Yeah, I don't see any signs of impending mainstream (cross-browser) acceptance of NativeClient any time soon. Gestalt is not a viable solution in my opinion, as it rides on top of Silverlight.

Yes, I think you're the only one. Good syntax highlighting is essential for me; I won't use an editor without it. It makes the code easier to read, and leads to less bugs (due to typos, etc.)
