If this works, Square will join the narrow ranks of companies who I want to succeed because my life would be dramatically worse without them. Please let it work.

I was under the impression that the gender disparity was actually age dependent: A surplus of both young men and older women.

Yeah, Yale makes this sort of thing a LOT easier than many schools thanks to how generous its leave policy is. The math would be a lot different for a school where dropping out meant losing your seat entirely.

This is very difficult to phrase without sounding like I'm attempting to insinuate my intelligence. But I don't believe that many very intelligent men took more than 10 minutes to solve this problem, unless it was presented to them in some

That makes it possible , but far from easy/convenient enough to be worthwhile . What I imagine is intended by this is a text editor tailor made for browsing and editing code on a touch screen with limited real estate. A non-trivial proble

That's a secondary, and arguably unwanted purpose of voting. The primary purpose is to push a valuable comment up towards the top of a page (or, conversely, push down a non-contributory comment).

I'm pretty sure this is the correct answer too. Visualization tip: Consider the possible nets of the rectangular prism that makes up the room, and find what the shortest path on one of them would look like.

Forgive my ignorance, but how is it possible to encrypt the video on the fly? Doesn't the client software have to know how to decrypt it in order to view it? And once that's available, what's to prevent someone from grabbing that decrypted

It's somewhat amusing to read this essay while sitting in Yale's CS 323 class. I do wonder, though, how much of this essay is Spolsky's investment bias (Ie, It must be worthwhile, because if not I suffered for nothing.)

It'd be nice to see some more face-centric auto-avatars like robohash, but in a variety of styles. While they're pretty cool looking, the cartoon-y feel doesn't necessarily work with every site design.

Is an arbitrary bit sequence valid unicode? If so, I'm curious if a simple per-character Huffman encoding of English would be more efficient.

A corroborating argument for dropping the stars: A lot of people who've tried multi-value rating systems have found that they get a heavily bimodal distribution anyways: people vote when they think something is awesome, or when it sucks, bu

I wonder if a solution similar to what Reddit does to subreddits might make sense. The likelihood of a link showing up on your front page is not just a function of votes, but also how many votes the average story from that subreddit gets (i
