Not really. If you look closely at the video, you can see it's just flat pieces of foam layered on top of each other. Presumably, she hand-made one chair for the competition. My guess is that the "crazy 3D modeling" involved a bunch of t

To be fair, Microsoft invested a lot more into catering for Korean users than anyone else. Just three years ago, I set up Firefox on my Korean friend's computer, and found out that he couldn't properly type Korean in his webmail program, wh

I agree, and also suggest playing guitar, if you like music. It helps in a few ways: switching the activities of your hands (left hand gripping the guitar neck, instead of right hand gripping the mouse), it builds finger strength, and most

My biggest problem with ImageMagick is the command-line API. I never use it enough to learn it off by heart, but it's not intuitive enough to quickly pick up again when I need it. Unfortunately, GraphicsMagick seems to use the same paradig

I think this speaks more to the low quality of these blacklists than to a problem at Amazon. Did anyone who noticed the offending site contact Amazon to have it removed, or are they simply content to keep adding more blocked IPs as the off

No, it doesn't, in my opinion. I almost never see dupe links here, and I don't think it's a problem at all.

You don't have to be successful at anything. I spent most of my twenties dwelling on my failures and wondering what I was doing wrong. I wish someone had just told me to chill out and do what I enjoy, but nobody did. You seem to have a lot

I lost any interest in what Malcolm Gladwell has to say about race after he argued that East Asian children have better math skills because their ancestors cultivated rice and not wheat. http://www.pressrun.net/weblog/2009/09/outliers-what

Opening the boomtango page takes a long time on my machine, mostly because it's trying to download an image from PayPal. I hope you guys can make all the images local, so it loads instantly.

I see. I'm under the impression that Microsoft doesn't support SVG in IE for political and competitive reasons, and that this proposal isn't going to change that, so I really don't see the point. I guess I don't really know how proposals li

Sounds nice in theory, but then again, so do most proposals about making stuff more extensible. There's more examples out there of how extensibility went wrong rather than right. (for example, OpenGL 1.x extensions vs. Direct3D's continuall

The interesting thing about this case is that the infringer was sued by a company that used their software, not by the copyright holder. I'm not sure I'm happy about that, given the way a few rabid free software fanatics have acted in the p

Cool article. I've also read that they used parts from ordinary household microwaves to create fake targets for the US anti-radiation missiles. Something that's sorely lacking from the article is any information on US long-term strategy.

I only read the first chapter of Malcolm X's autobiography before I lost my copy, but boy was it ever worth reading. I think everyone should take an hour to sit down and read the first chapter, even if they don't like books.
