This is fantastic. It's the best thing since StarLogs ( http://starlogs.net/#johnzachary/libcork )

I guess my tongue-in-cheek plug for our C library was misinterpreted. I really didn't mean to ding Cello, just put ours out there, too.

Was I the only person who thought "Did the NSA really need Microsoft's assistance?"?

Respectfully, the ratio of "papers to systems" has less to do with communication and more to do with tenure and promotion. Most professors couldn't care less if their papers are implemented, or even read.

An incredibly good point. He ran in 2008 mainly on the message of "we're not Republicans". However, his message then - and now - lacked substantive policy changes and improvements for governance. It was more of the same, whi

Oops! I mistakenly typed "slate" when I meant "salon". I'll leave the original up and see how dinged I become.

All of the heroes are C-level executives. Villains are mostly government people and sycophantic businessmen.

(a) Too many pop-ups on Slate.com to even read the article. (b) Ayn Rand was a terrible writer (hyperverbose) and philosopher (simplistic idealism). I doubt most modern day adherents have read "Atlas Shrugged".

Yahoo is like HP. They once had pretty great engineering and relevance, but they are a zombie company now. If I were a Yahoo shareholder, I'd be pretty pissed about this deal.

Oh, hell yeah! I want a mobile-enabled web site on my iPad, not another useless app-wrapper proxy for a web site. Shouldn't the fact that I remember the URL be enough??

I write ANSI C for a living, and I still learn new tricks and insights from the second edition. In fact, many of the neatest ways we use C are things that we learned from references published the 1980s and early 1990s.

This is the whole reason why I went into computer science. I watched all of my repos twice today, then I started picking repos at random. Even my non-techie "I can't work an Apple Magic Pad" big-boobed wife thinks it's super cool. Well don

I definitely agree with respect to income, estate, and property taxes. Consumption-based taxes are fairer than so-called "progressive" tax schemes implemented to fund world wars and military expansion. Ref. http://opinionator.blogs.nytime

Geesh, tough crowd. No sense of humor. (Chrome version 24.0.1312.57 really doesn't crash for me on Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Safari and TextEdit do, though.)

This is quite true. For state schools, new buildings may be a "gift" from the political class to show the public their support for higher education. The stupid irony is those buildings typically don't come with operations and maintenance
