I owned a 2009 Golf TDI and loved every minute of it. The car was simply a blast to drive. In the 18 months I drove the Golf I didn't have any issues with high-torque. In fact, the turbo lag guaranteed you wouldn't slam into the c

What can I say? I was pretty late to the internet show. Never really got deep into the BBS scene, though I do remember doing some exploration of several.

This brings back a lot of memories: the family Apple IIe and TRS-80 (Trash 80), Compuserve and external modems. Good times! I don't think I ever owned a Hayes external modem though. IIRC my first online experience was with a 9200 baud

Looks like the crows' intelligence can go both ways! I suspect that your disguise would not have fooled them though. I've watched some amazing feats of Crow problem solving (thanks Sir David Attenborough!) so they probably would h

I recently had to replace my front chainrings after about 7000 km because the chain was jumping when I applied lots of pressure. The rear cassette was also replaced because the old chain (5k km) had damaged the cogs. So gears do indeed wear

I'm sad that people incur permanent, potentially life changing injuries from the game, not because I want to push my views on them.

I'll ask you the (serious) question then: if the cost of the experience of playing with those people was a permanently injured knee would you still say it was worth it? I get that sports are about relationships as much as the game, but

What's sad to me is to read that the writer is happy to have a permanently damaged knee in exchange for a few years of playing football. Personally I can't see how it would be worth it. I need to walk, run and cycle every day for

I've had exactly the same thoughts. Swype is a godsend for me and generally just works. It knows how I type, and gives excellent suggestions so a significant percentage of the time I tap a suggested word rather than have to swype it ou

I yell at cyclists for running red lights, etc. It's stupid, illegal, could get them killed and also gives everyone a bad reputation.

Is your insurance deductible $2500? If you had full insurance, as I assume you would from your comment, why not claim it? After all, it's there to protect you too. You can substitute cyclist for uninsured driver and the situation would

And just what would be the point of bike insurance cover? Car insurance is primarily for property damage and/or medical issues. When's the last time you saw a bike cause serious property damage? And it's obvious that short of

This was fascinating to me. It feels like a major failing that I could register routes for address space I don't control. Kudos to the authors for explaining things in a way that a novice networking guy like myself could understand.

I had the same initial thought about (a), but the comments mentioned that CloudFlare issues a certificate you can install on your origin servers which will allow secure connections with CloudFlare.

Ahhh, that would make it simple! I was hoping you were going to recommend a device that would make it work for my single Thunderbolt port MBP.

If I could ask an unrelated question, what are you using to power 2 external monitors on your MBP? I have a 30" monitor at $work, but a pair of smaller monitors would be even better.

There's plenty of tricks to allow you to watch Netflix outside their official countries, like the DNS services. But I agree with you that I'll first look if something is available on Netflix and only then look for alternative opti

The whole of Massachusetts is brighter than the surrounding states, and grows brighter the closer you get to Boston. I wonder where all that data came from. Was it a corporate or state data donation?

They must be assuming that most people won't actually use all 100 GB since the $1.99 is way below the cost of the physical drive (on a $/GB basis).

I applied for a job with athenahealth in Boston many years ago, but sadly didn't make the cut then. It sounded like a fantastic place to work, where you could make a difference in people's health as well as make good money.

I don't think that node is bad, but it's simply another dependency you have to worry about. Most devs likely won't have node pre-installed. Having a no-dependency binary is a great thing.

I've been using an HP MicroServer (the N54L to be exact) + FreeNAS with great success. My outlay was <$300 since I used disks I already had lying around and the performance is much better than the cheap home-grade NAS products.
