this hasn’t been my experience in manhattan/brooklyn fwiw. taking the subway is routinely faster. i can see the bus being slower but it’s usually not by much. You also need to deal with parking for a car if you’re not using a rideshare

Certain industries still care about this stuff. Some trading firms rely on performant systems which utilize strategies like what you described. Not everything is in hardware and it varies from place to place

just my 2 cents, I also have had 5 jobs around the same amount of time, non-FAANG but a diff industry. For me personally, 3 of those jobs were 2-3 years, and the other 2 were short stints at place that were a bad fit. I still get interviews

I think it really depends on the scale of data. If you're dealing with anything less than a GB, it probably doesn't matter all that much, but once you're dealing with larger datasets there is a pretty massive difference with

i think these really depends on the requirements of the company. there will always be a long tail of scenarios to support, that doesn't mean every company needs support in all those scenarios. some things can be good enough

I really enjoyed this book as well. Just a heads up for anyone interested, there is a vampire character, which seems very out of place initially, but just something that needs to be accepted for the story. It does all kind of fit in by the
