Absolutely. In another year or two Apple may provide the notification system of my dreams, but after three years I'm ready for anything that doesn't involve a button press, screen swipe, and passcode, just to checkif I have unread email.

Since the Twitter website only accounts for something like ~15% of "tweet traffic" it will be interesting to see whether Twitter start to push these sponsored trends to client apps.

I think it's smart. If your product is a compliment to another then sharing a point of sale is your earliest and best opportunity to make a sale. The type of people buying software at these stores, as opposed to Amazon/newegg etc, are gener

These are good tips, but my number one tip for sleeping long haul is to wear something super comfortable on the flight. I have a pair of baggy tracksuit bottoms and long-sleeve t-shirt, that roll down into nothing, which I change into in th

According to CTIA, text message usage in the US grew 50% between 2008 and 2009, and so far in 2010 the increase is even greater. Can you guess what's happened to prices?

This is only true if your device does not have parental restrictions set. If it does and 17+ apps are restricted, you won't even get that far.

"They will likely compete with each other to drive down prices per unit of usage" I would say this is very unlikely. Look at call minutes, look at SMS messages. Both of these have plenty of scope for carriers to cut costs and compete while

Now it's only $15 for data, plus the existing $10 for an extra line, I can imagine there's going to be a lot of kids on family plans who will now be allowed to get iPhones.

Further thoughts: 1) This is mostly AT&T putting a stake in the ground now to be able to charge more in the future. Yes, 98% of subscribers currently use less than 2GB of data but that won't be true in 2-3 years. Instead of increasing t

If this is a prelude to AT&T losing their exclusivity then it's an odd move - the standard "unlimited data" cap on Verizon is 5GB. I'm not sure why AT&T would charge more for less compared to a competitor who was about to offer an a

It would be better if the "assumptions" were clearly displayed. Until I found them (mostly due to a comment here) my bullshit meter was loudly buzzing. That aside, it's a little disingenuous that the page refuses to let me enter certain val

I think it would be beneficial to mention that context more clearly in the article. As it is written the advice seems to be very generic which is why many people here are disagreeing with it.

Because you CAN churn out HTML5 in different text editors (or Dreamweaver) doesn't mean they're a GOOD way to generate rich content. While I think Flash (the authoring tool) is a bloated mess, it's light years ahead of anything that exists

A better article would be "Why Wired Didn't use HTML5 for their iPad App". Since that probably wouldn't have the same link-bait worthy title, I'll write one here. Why didn't Wired use HTML5? 1) a) it was built by Adobe who build it on Flash

This certainly doesn't seem like AppEngine for small businesses - $8 per user (capped at $1k) per month seems like a heck of a lot if your service doesn't require much in the way of processor/storage.

Clearly they will, assuming you are willing to wait a few generations of hardware for them to become powerful enough. I think there's now a Javascript port of Quake 2 that's just about playable on a modern PC. That game's 13 years old.
