Point 5, “ Your impact is tough to measure” is also shared by Quality Engineering and SRE, and not unique to Data Science. The point about being a support role holds true for them and it is thoroughly frustrating when a front-end dev makes

It still has the least limitations with respect to browsers and broad support for different languages. I would suggest editing the question to mention browser automation for testing specifically. Automation can be done in all sorts of areas

This is funny, sad and familiar all at the same time. It’s not limited to politicians either. I’ve seen top leadership in companies where they cut resources or investment in an area, then when the quality or output suffers make grandstandin

I see this a lot more now. I think it’s a misguided strategy around trying to reduce the number of people choosing ‘other’ if it’s available because data from is seen as not useful. They don’t seem to realize that by limiting options in thi

Seems like a straightforward testing consultancy. I hope that’s accurate. Good luck. Testing is critical and not always done well.

I share your view. I’m surprised at the level of liberty already being asked to be given up with respect to forcing businesses to close especially, kind of shocking to see people wanting even more measures and how quickly all this can happe

It’s the same thing when it comes to quality. A lot of lip service paid but no one sees it as anything exciting.

I’d like a magic keyboard for Mac with a small trackpad incorporated into too! Don’t need a huge separate trackpad.

I have done something like this, but my pitch began before I got hired. So during the interview process I explained that I am involved with a side business and that the product is a useful tool for helping me with the day job I was getting

The morale destruction must be enormous, being treated like a potential criminal at the end of each workday. Seems like a tech company should have a tech solution to this.

If you don’t see it as something you need, you probably don’t ... at least not yet. Ive been an Engineering Manager and Head of Quality Engineering and when you end up with hundreds or thousands of test cases, either in one product or servi

I broadly agree with this approach. Automated functional end-to-end tests may not pinpoint what line of code has an issue but they will identify there’s a problem somewhere which is better than not knowing. Your product code and tests can b

Because they are the good guys of course :-) Almost all triple A games are made in the US itself or allies (UK/Canada/Japan/EU) so it’s expected these games will have a positive view. Same reason it’s true in Hollywood. Mos

I went from being a software engineer to an engineering manager and I wouldn’t say management is easier, in a way going back to being able to spend the whole day coding seems almost luxurious. Creating an environment so team members can get

Even c may be too abstract, b was the clearest to me. I can see why if you’re completely familiar with your product you may prefer the others, because you feel it does so much more but for people who’ve never heard of a product it’s perhaps

I’m lead dev at Tesults.com and we use this stack. Are you asking about VC backed up companies however? Tesults is bootstrapped and not massive yet so may be there is a reason it’s not used more widely which means I’ll discover why and have

Earlier this year bought a UI design book (Refactoring UI) from here https://refactoringui.com/ that helped improve tesults.com, the intended audience (of the book) includes developers and since Tesults is dev heavy we need

Three come to mind rather than one. Deciding at 13 I had to learn how to make video games. Having the guts to ask out my future wife at 19. Deciding in my 20s I would no longer allow myself to be tormented by bullies/events of the past

There’s nothing anyone will be able to recommend here that isn’t biased. There’s no unbiased western ones either. Just have to read a bunch and try to make a judgement that is also likely wrong.

I think this is very important, not having a deadline can mean nothing ships and having a hard deadline I have seen quality and best practices slip due to pressure to cut corners. Other general things that I’ve seen help. Code reviews shoul

This isn’t true if you’ve been in a situation where execs are pushing hard to meet a deadline. Corners need to be cut or dates need pushing back, you can’t do both in most cases.

I don't live in the US but asked some colleagues in New York how much it would be for a self employed person with a family (of 4 as an example) and they told me around $20K/year. Your figures are very far off that, what gives, is

Based on my experience you can go higher than $5K / year on a card, definitely to just under $10K and possibly even a little more than that.
