The etymology of the "real" in real estate is very traceable and clear. real: late Middle English (as a legal term meaning ‘relating to things, especially real property’): from Anglo-Norman French, from late Latin realis, from Lat

At least Boston Market started in/near Boston. Pittsburgh Tool is not even a company, just a brand for the same white-label tools as Milwaukee and Black and Decker. The whole tool product category has gone to crap since that started.

It's specifically the Presidential or White House [0] fellowships that are prestigious, although if you have any job in the White House that's just as well. What value an employer would derive from seeing that on someone's re

I mean, that's an issue with administration turn-over in general. With the PIF it looks like they get spread around to various agencies, so I don't think a fellow from one cohort is likely to be assigned to the same agency and pro

I do too! I cracked open an internal tool we had one of the big consulting firms build for us to see why it sucked so much. In one of the header elements they had hardcoded the URL for a QA site they built for a large car dealer. Fun stuff.

Actually quite the opposite: they're specifically targeting people with FAANG and/or Ivy League pedigrees. The government can't afford these people straight up, so they slap "Presidential" or "White House"

Nope, you are correct, I completely over-looked the "campaigning". Campaigning is actually supposed to be kept very separate from civic business. Updating my comment.

I doubt that was the main datastore. It might have been a configuration database though, which I can see it being an issue given that it sounds like it was business logic causing the issues.

You might be right, but that might be because they're just really bad managers. A good engineering manager shouldn't be there to herd engineers. A good engineering manager is there to protect their engineers from the organization,

So your logic is: condemning people for criminal behavior is not useful because it de-incentivizes their victims from being vigilant against that criminal behavior. Am I getting that right?
