That software can be generated and continuously optimized by a neutral net. But that would probably mean that we achieved AGI, so decoding JPEGs won’t be that exciting by itself.

Bitcode is architecture-dependent, you can’t just recompile it for a random target. Additionally, Mac AppStore apps are shipped without Bitcode.

Are you sure you're looking at the "real" RAM usage? Apps nowadays are allowed to claim up to 4 GB of virtual memory. On my machine I'm seeing Finder reported to have taken 800MB in total, but only 160MB of real memory.

Because of how the compositing works, it’s not uncommon to have 100 or more megabytes of RAM taken by the UI alone. Not a bad thing though, it allows for simpler and more performant animations. Other than that, I’m not familiar with any par

Random changes is how you push the world forward. Otherwise you get stuck in a local maxima. Today we're getting new buttons, some other day we'll see the rise of some new technology and will think "yeah, that's the obvi

It’s a solution for a person who really wants in. I’m just saying that when you think about it, it feels weird — privileges literally depend on the “color” of one’s passport. Must be inherent to our civilization.

Entry regulations are fine, every nation has the right to decide who they want to see on their land. However, being treated differently based not on your personality or track record, but on where you hail from is... I don't know, but s

Windows app developers couldn't care less about ARM Windows. MacOS app developers will have to if they want to stay relevant.

If I understand correctly, hypervisors don't emulate hardware, that's what emulators (like QEMU) do. That would mean that physically the most performant option to run x86 code on an ARM CPU is dynamic translation (like QEMU-TCG or

I come from a land where patents don’t really work. I often wonder, are there any examples of patents in the field of software engineering that worked like they supposed to, protecting small collectives from powerful corporations?

Historically, developing an app with tools that are native to the platform provided asymptotically better user experience. So, if your goal is to perfect the UX, native is your choice. In reality, rarely do you need to work on the UX first.
