And we see PG talking up H1B on twitter. I'd like to think that if he still read HN he might not do that. Really companies should be banned from importing more people[1] if they laid off a certain number in the last year. That way the

Many switch mode power supplies will increase the current draw if the voltage drops, that's why many of them will work on both 120 and 248V, while old school power supplies need a manual switch. I had a brownout once and thought my was

Although it's true that replacing LLVM like-for-like would indeed be expensive, I feel like you missed GP's point. To make the easier to debug, what you want is to replace LLVM with something simple, like a plain interpreter. And

It sounds like the ideal, then, would be to detect the problematic patterns earlier so people wouldn't need to bang their heads against it.

There's no way it only cost £15 in total to install a smart meter. The cost of the meter has to be at least that much and then you have paying a guy to actually install it (which in my case took 3 attempts and caused a gas leak, which

Given that IAM is used by cloud providers as a lock-in mechanism, how do you plan to get them to allow users to use your IAM? Or is this not aimed at that market? Congrats on the launch!

So I'm curious- I can understand why you'd want a fractional CFO or CMO, but what does a fractional CTO even do? In my mind a CTO is either someone who manages multiple teams,or someone who manages a team that does 'de novo&

These days most such chips have write protect in built in. They don't need efuses because they can just use flash bits and extra logic at negligible cost

It would make more sense to just record everything they do. The reason for all this documentation is for disputes or court cases, but if you have a recording you can produce the documentation only if it's actually required. Of course,

The US has number portability - you should be able to switch now and keep your number However having said that, I'm not sure it will keep working if the original provider goes bust. If it's the same as in the UK, under the hood th

One good reason is that you can try stuff that would screw your laptop. Whereas with a pi it's just flashing the card again. I used to work for a company that sold pi kits for schools, you could let 7-9 year olds try stuff that teacher

The simplest algorithm to understand is probably Grover's algorithm. Knowing that shows you how to get an sqrt(N) speedup on many classical algorithms. Then have a look at shor's algorithm which is the classic factoring algorithm.

Yeah that quote is a bit nuts. The reality is that the pi isn't a general educational product - it's a computing educational product. And that is fine. If a kid wants to learn about programming, about what goes on under the hood,

As an actual builder it has limitations, such as not having (built in) the ability to know if it can still do an incremental build after changing some build option. That can result in inconsistent builds. The main problem is that you often
