I think they may have been a bit ahead of the time here. One problem with Yahoo is that they aren't able to lay out a vision: here's something cool, and here's why you will like it. Steve Jobs is the gold standard here, of course.

Once again, Yahoo was ahead of the curve by 3 years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_Live (the other recent example being Instant Search).

This is just but one example. I could give dozens more. The reality is: using MSFT products _often_ leave one frustrated and exasperated. These little paper cuts add up.

I think it's not the presence of middle managers; but how they are evaluated and incentivized. I don't envy their jobs; the upper managers have entire teams with clear tasks; the engineers on the other side have stuff to do; the middle mana

To quote Steve Jobs: "The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste. They have absolutely no taste. And I don't mean that in a small way, I mean that in a big way, in the sense that they don't think of original ideas, and they

OK, you have a point: the homeless do get some benefit from City services. Though even that system is broken. I pass by several homeless people lying in the doorways every day.

No, I don't love the City's services; I love the people who LIVE in the City. The streets are full of potholes. The public transit system (MUNI) is chronically broken (why? because 70% of their cost is personnel!). There are 9000 City emplo

In San Francisco, a 2-BR condo goes for around $800K. At a 1.16% property tax rate, you'll be paying $9000/year in property taxes. How's that for a tax rate?

I think the main difference between India and, say, the West (US/UK) is that in India, students pick a profession based on the earning potential, or what their parents what them to do. Very few people pick it based on what they want to do.

IMHO, this entire 1.5% payroll tax should go. And while we're at it, lets bring the property tax below 1%. And sales tax should go back to the 8% that it used to be. Yesterday I got an email from SEIU (the government employees union), aski

Even a 1 hour recharge is not bad. After driving for 350 miles, I wouldn't mind stopping for a nice lunch. While you're having lunch, the car's batteries get recharged, for much less than the price of the lunch.

From my experience in working at another large Internet company, my advice to Google would be: get rid of middle management. Get rid of the people who are not actually touching the product (in terms of code, design, testing, etc.). The impa

Interestingly, a large chunk of the traffic comes from SF and the Bay Area. That leads me to believe that Quora is to a large extent a Bay Area echo-chamber.
