The trackpad on a Windows Air-style laptop could be a big win. As amazing as the Macbook trackpad is on OS X, it's still incredibly flaky on Windows.

This puts into words why I found the use of "shit" in http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3209500 jarring despite not really being offended.

For instance, Java, .NET, ruby, C++ STL and Objective C. Most languages use them. http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/A... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fkbw11z0.aspx http://www.ruby-doc.org/core-1.9.3/

Not on OS X. I'm sure I've seen a tiny js library on github that does browser sniffing and gives you the relevant keyboard shortcut. Can't find it now.

Copy constructors are a much more common idiom in programming than taking a slice of an entire list.

It amuses me it goes straight from making the point that tabular layouts are clear to a rather confusing table in Figure 4 where what should be a header looks like normal text.

Hopefully the G+ chrome plugin will stay as a plugin. I'm not too keen on it being integrated into it as a product as a whole.

Hey Apple, there's a shop near my parents simply called "Apple". It's logo is a picture of an apple. That seems a more likely candidate to go after.

Not true if you got a 2nd generation iPhone. You could have gotten a 3G as the latest phone and been unsupported for 9 months on an 18 month contract.

If you bought an iPhone 3G any time before June 2009 you were buying the latest phone. On a 12 month contract that leaves you with 3 months unsupported, and on an 18 month contract 9 months.

Or add the ability to pause / control which slide to view.

Limiting it to 3 years masks the fact that lots of people still had iPhone 3G phones on 2 year contracts when Apple stopped offering updates for it. That said, the fact even that's off the scale is worrying for Android.

There's a full, though poor quality, transcript. That's what I ended up using.

I think the arguments about staying on course are poor. It seems to me the thinking is "Given we've got optional typing, it's faster to not check the types. The majority of type errors should be found during development."

I dunno, the reliability of Intellisense static typing gives combined with a REPL would be even more useful for exploration. That aside, it's exciting to have the ability to have both.

"The most profound difference between the 4S and 4 cameras has nothing to do with image quality. It’s that you don’t have to wait nearly as long. [...] Even better, image quality is better, too." Jeez Gruber, make up your mind :P

Chrome 13 scores 2.5. I thought Chrome latest was 14, which definitely addresses some of the missing points from 13.

The comments under the "Feeble Typing" section make it clear the author has never seen or read Gilad talk about optional typing. For one example, read http://bracha.org/pluggable-types.pdf

They do, but it's a heck of a lot of work. The CLR has the DLR (Dynamic Language Runtime) that does a lot of the work for you now, but it's still a pain.
