Just a theory, but could it be that all those friends have your email in their contact list, and when they've done a bulk import Facebook has remembered that connection so it can suggest them to you if you ever join (and vice versa)? T

I think the restrictions are things like restricting by IP, reducing simultaneous use, throttling the rate you can create new sessions. With a unified token, you have to always trust it for as long as the 'remember me' token is al

It's worth noting a lot of the design decisions in the article are based on assertions about what is/isn't used. Which is fine - it makes reading through the design process more interesting and insightful. It would be interes

It seems odd that something that's just fetching and displaying snippets of HTML doesn't have a non-js fallback. But from the About it looks like this is a personal project made public in case anyone else finds it useful.

This new release seems to have support for Linux and OS X, which is a new addition to the Source SDK. Previously you've only been able to use mods on Windows. This might be enough to get me back into modding for a bit.

Interesting that reduce and forEach have about the same performance, suggesting the overhead is in the function invocation, no matter whether it needs to close over variables or not. I would have thought not closing over variables would be

OO doesn't mean boilerplate. Just because there's a correlation in languages like C++ and Java doesn't mean there's causation. Most of their boilerplate derive from the type system.

The first thing I did was run the website copy through it. It picked up a few problems such as the use of the passive voice. A demonstration perhaps to not take the results at face value.

There isn't a huge amount of features in this release that are taken from Andriod that I can see. There is certainly an inspiration in the look and perhaps some of the feel, but most of the similarities they raise here are just obvious

I don't think that's double tapping, I think it's just not picking up taps properly while the items are still in motion due to the momentum in the scroll. The first time he seems to be able to single tap.

I think it's more justified here than aero, but in both cases it gives you a sense of context, that the other layer is still there benief it even if you can't see it clear enough. In a static shot it's just noise, but as you

Google Instant has instant feedback based on what you type, which quickly and easily cements the idea that Google is processing what you type as you type it. The demo in the video doesn't have any instant feedback, so doesn't continually re

Especially as all the data seems to be there, it's just got 'display: none' in the css. The only reason I can think of is to stop ugly flashes as it zebra-stripes it. There's surely better solutions for that?

If you've got a public blog, I'd say that's analogous to having a public twitter account (i.e. anyone can see your tweets). On a public twitter account, if you block someone they can still see your tweets, and they can still talk about you.

Interfaces are a two way deal: input and state representation. I would say communicating playback progress through tape reels is skeuomorphic. You're right in that it's not really "excess".
