Faster? It’s gotten slower! Significantly slower. Haven’t you noticed that modern jetliners don’t really even have swept back wings any more? The sweet spot for fuel efficiency is around 530mph for modern, very high bypass turbofan engi

Physics PhD from Berkeley. If things are more or less equal, choose the private institution. Berkeley is still the most corrupt organization I’ve ever been associated with.

In subfields of physics, and I suspect math, the submitter is never anonymous. These people talk at conferences, have a list of previous works, etc., and fields are highly specialized. So the reviewer knows with 50-95% certainty who he is r

Plus a means or magnet arrangement to prevent tumbling. But it would be very dangerous getting in and out without special engineering.

1. Beer glass has to be optimized for ruggedness when washed many times. 2. Beer glass needs to be optimized for manufacturing and packing cost. 3. Numerical modeling is reknown for making elaborate suggestions for 1% improvements.

Would be very interesting to study classical stress analysis in compositions of these shapes subject to external loads. Not to mention vibrational analysis and the forms of wave functions.

Remarkably, Twitter had fake jobs for most of its history. Any new Stanford graduate in any field could have one.

I have a PhD in Physics from Berkeley. Still, in the strictest real estate sense, my best and highest use is as a dishwasher. I was managing a small optics factory in Livermore. We made laser mirrors to order there — any wavelength, any ref

In 1966, we had one in the Stuyvesant HS computer room, along with an IBM 1130 system that ran Fortran 4. I got good at the Programma, it was quite useful. But I don’t recall 240 steps; I recall less than 100. Indeed, the much more advance

Very skeptical of the thesis here. The practical limit is the sampling theorem and the bit resolution, not “computability.” It is possible that there are persons who can resolve a 25th bit or be disturbed by aliasing associated with the sam

This is right. I’m an MIT physics SB. The undergraduate curriculum is pretty uniform across schools. A lot of our teachers were poor. But what was being taught, and is always taught at top schools, is mannerisms. What does an actual physici

Crouch? When training technicians, the first thing is, you never ever bend your waist in the laser room, with lasers on. Your head never enters the plane of the laser beams. You do not put your ahead above the laser. You use a piece of copy

Just got a Windows 11 machine. Had to, to run Solidworks. Have it next to a new M3 iMac. They’re all configured with the same apps. Despite not having used Windows in 10 years, these machines behave identically. But Windows 11 is snappier.

That’s not large models “understanding physics.” Better, giving output “statistically consistent” with real physical measurements. And no one, to my knowledge, has yet succeeded in a general AI app that reverts to a deterministic calculati

Use LabView as a calculation engine to do experiments. The advantage is you get system-like diagrams.
