Unless you work for the government. I fell for the free enterprise shtick, hook, line, and sinker, but everyone with a good government job did better than me. I’m talking, $150k to $200k PENSIONS in two cases. Even the divorced secretary of

Columbia’s downfall began in a single moment in the early 50’s. When I.I. Rabi refused to let a poor Mr. Bader go to grad school in Physics part time so he could help his family out by working. Mr. Bader later became Feynman’s high school

I’ve suspected this. There was always some seed corn of this type at MIT, even in the old days. I got SB, 1968-72. Hacker was a new word, and nerd was often spelled with a “u.” It would have been unthinkable to try to prosecute Jonathan S

In science, this is a second order effect compared to the problem that negative results and failed experiments are never reported, especially in the case of the physical sciences. “If my experiment doesn’t work, you get to repeat it.”

Globalization did not ‘rob’ the Midwest or ‘sucked it dry’ or whatever. Anymore than than the Asian economies were BEING robbed and sucked dry by the Midwest before the switch. See what I mean? Capital is bidirectional and always has been.
