Anyone on the most recent LTS Kernel (6.18) with an older nvidia GPU will not have a good experience on Wayland. I have two machines with Pascal GPUs and: - The nvidia binary driver is shit with Wayland - The nvidia OSS driver does not sup

This is a good point, but my point is that they chose to get into this business. 1. Some people have no ethical problems making bombs. 2. Some people have an ethical problem with making bombs so do something else. 3. Some people have an eth

You are proposing that going from N companies chasing AGI to N-1 companies chasing AGI will have zero effect on when AGI happens?

I don't think we can stop it, but the people saying "this is happening and we should probably figure out what to do about it" are doing their best to accelerate it, which gives us less time to figure out what to do about it.

That seems intuitively true given that most 32-bit numbers are composite, so if you have X = ab and aY < 2^32 and bY < 2^32: X × Y = X/a × aY = X/b × bY = Y × X = aY × X/a = bY × X/b Which is 6 pairs resulting in t

My impression is that AI didn't replace static code in this place; it replaced a person, who (hopefully) would have been suspicious about sending an account recovery code for e.g. "obamawhitehouse" to e.g. "bscurtu.alfam

The poem itself is elitist. If you leverage a broad social network, you are better than if you use AI.

So what's the kind of elitism that gets the point?

Aside from the fact that slapping an s-expression syntax on top of a language typically leaves you with a fairly crappy Lisp, that would also lack the excellent Common Lisp interop that Coalton has.

I agree 100% with this article. However I switched to NixOS several years ago. On the axes I most care about, NixOS is better than Gentoo. In particular, managing configurations in NixOS is really a breeze. No more merging diffs of rando

It also shows what category the notification was tagged with. An app that improperly tags notification categories gets one of two results from me: 1. Uninstall the app 2. If the app is non-optional for some reason, block all notifications.

They are not necessarily opposed, just in tension. A zealous guard of your attention will occasionally block something you would like to have seen. That being said, yes most notifications are garbage and should be blocked.

A good realtor will often not recommend the same contractors that they use for prepping a home for sale. The requirements for getting a home in saleable condition and getting a home in livable condition are not always the same. Instead t

My understanding that Japan is exceptional in this case; I've been told that houses in Japan depreciate about as fast as a quality roof, so e.g. a roof-replacement is not ever needed -- it's just time to build a new house.

It's more complicated than that. If you sell-to-buy then the tenure only affects the costs related to the purchase itself. I suspect many homeowners live in a house they own for much more than 20 years. I've owned since 2007, b
