I have had an Uber driver account for years and have never had an incentive (besides things like surge pricing which are paid by riders) That may depend on the market, but the unit economics in my market (Toronto) are undoubtedly positive.

Uber has positive unit economics. Uber gets ~20% of what you spend on a ride and their per-unit expenses are basically moving a few bits around and having someone in a Filipino call center present to provide customer support.

The software. I want to turn my car on over the internet from my phone and heat it up 15 min before I leave the office two blocks away. Then I want to put it in autopilot for the mind-numbing straightforward freeway traffic on my commute.

What's wrong with taking an 8 year loan for an asset that you will possess and use every day of those 8 years? As long as the interest rate is good (less than 4%, say) it sounds like a prudent decision that frees up cash flow.

The real people who grow my food are the engineers at Monsanto and John Deere and chemical fertilizer companies and they make plenty of money. The farmer ultimately adds very little value compared to the above, sorry to say.

You are not billed by the "load balancer", you are billed by the "forwarding rule" which makes it very obvious that the infrastructure is shared and that you will have additional costs with every K8S ingress.

All of the load balancers on GCP are shared. Maybe you meant to say you get a new, fresh IP address which is true but also not very expensive. "Cloud Load Balancing is a fully distributed, software-defined, managed service for all your

This would be fine if we had basic income but since your survival is tied to employment, employers should not be allowed to discriminate based on political opinion any more than they can discriminate against pregnant women or seniors.

Does anyone know why the big cloud vendors don’t seem to have any offerings that can beat a regular consumer machine in single thread performance? Surely there must be a market for it?

Maybe it’s different in India but can you not sell the car and use the proceeds to pay off the lien to the bank and keep the difference? Or are you saying they’re underwater on the loans? If so, what can the bank do about it besides reposse

That’s nuts, I lived a luxurious life in college on less than that. It’s certainly enough money for a room and food and a car and savings left over in nearly every US municipality.

Depends on your definition of well paid. Living on $50/h remotely in Vietnam is much more luxurious than $120/h butt-in-seat in San Francisco although it’s a lot less money in absolute terms.
