Imagine some guy was hired at $50/h to flip burgers and a few years down the line he gets fired in favor of a cheaper worker. Which part was unfair? The part where he was making $50/h flipping burgers or the termination? Edit: wha

But playing golf with your rich white male clients and putting them at ease is a core requirement of this job. You literally can't do your job well as an elite lawyer if you don't have a good rapport with rich old white people.

Just FYI, percentile is the percentage of people lower than you not higher. So someone really smart would be in the 99th percentile of IQ and someone really stupid would be in the 1st percentile.

The point is they didn't create much of a moat but they did bust the regulations. So competitors are free to pop up and consumers win at the expense of taxi drivers and taxi medallion owners (usually separate people).

I don't follow. It only cost $2 a day to take the moto taxi between the office and the Skytrain. What kind of moto can you buy for $60-$120? And that's not taking into consideration parking requirements and the extra time it takes

> Or even let them to specify where they want to go. Maybe it's already implemented by someone? Yes this is already implemented by Uber [1]. I have used it several times on my commute home. [1] https://techcrunch.com/

Have you ever been to Bangkok? I can just pay $1, hop on the back of a moto idling outside the skytrain station, and off we go lanesplitting through traffic straight to my office 2km away. It's amazing and would be so illegal on so man

In my experience, whenever Uber is surging enough to make cabs cheaper (2.5x in my city), there are no cabs to be found. That or the cabs try to scam you by asking for extra cash off meter (happened to me on New Year's Eve).

If we had a DV cert and pinned the DV root then the barrier for an attacker is a lot lower. They just need to jack our DNS and get their own automated DV cert issued quick.

They can improve security. We used to pin the EV roots of a couple CAs that we trusted in our mobile apps and in the browser via hpkp. This protected against someone tricking or coercing a lesser CA into issuing a DV cert and MITMing us.

The people I know at Uber don't think it's a toxic work environment and I have no reason to distrust them in favor of a couple of accusatory blog posts from disgruntled ex-employees that I've never met.

Of course it makes sense, they would be more desperate to hire and you would have less competition from others who have ethical problems with Uber.

I know plenty of Indian and Chinese people who moved to Canada despite becoming relatively poorer in goods and services. There is a lot of value in law and order, education, clean air, and political stability.

Yes of course. Looking at my records it's something like $0.65/km driven in revenue, which is well over the $0.54/mile quoted by the IRS for all-in vehicle costs.

I drive for Uber part time even though it pays literally 8x less than my day job. It's relaxing and gives me an excuse to drive my car while someone else pays for the gas and mileage.

There are a lot of people who work in the city but feel they need a house to raise a family. Unless you're making $400k+ a year, that leaves suburbia as the only option in my city.
