It does. But scaling to billions of users (or billions of requests per day) is still not easy and you really need high performance for that. Laravel scales to a certain point, where their design decisions (eloquent, the queuing system etc.)

Build something with symfony or laravel. In this space PHP is used in the modern way. Don't look at WordPress, Pimcore, WooCommerce et al. They're pretty much stuck with old PHP. That said, you can still shoot yourself in the foot

What do you mean? What is huge to you? For me a static blog on a small vps would start to crumble at around 30 to 150 requests per second. This number is broad because the are a lot of moving parts even in this scope. This results in 2.5 mi

I'm not necessarily sharing that view, but that is the answer for all the posts, who claim that criticism of trump/musk/Tesla/USA etc. is censored on hn. Enough people are sick of all that politics and want their old hn

I don't know what you want to say with those screenshots. I think you get backlash here, because you tried to promote your own work with the argument that the work of other people is bad. Since you attacked potentially a few thousand d

"PHP is in decline" or "PHP is dead" can be happily ignored. People saying this based on “data” pulled out of someone else's butt. This is going on since almost 10 years, and it is wrong since ever. PHP is chugging

I write bog-standard PHP software. When GPT-4 came out, I was very frightened that my job could be automated away soon, because for PHP/Laravel/MySQL there must exist a lot of training data. The reality now is, that the current LL

Ok, I'll bite. I predict that everything in this article is horse manure. AGI will not happen. LLMs will be tools, that can automate away stuff, like today and they will get slightly, or quite a bit better at it. That will be all. See

You numbers are way off. They posted the initial cost of the storage. Also the support costs. The facility opex of 50k a month is just wrong for one rack. Whatever LLM you used, it told you good sounding bullshit. Like LLMs do.

While this is technically true, it is almost every time false in this case. The network traffic scales with the CPU resources, you use on UpCloud. I know that, because I used their services. But it would have been enough to just read the li

You're misrepresenting UpCloud's offering. Their "zero-cost egress" is completely truthful - they don't charge extra fees for data transfer, unlike other providers. The fair usage policy you linked sets reasonable b
