Because anon users won't link to "primary sources", which are really nothing of the sort? Because "primary sources" are always correct and trustworthy and never disagree?

IMHO reputation is important to build into the base level for a platform like this. Allowing anon registrations and commenting will eventually lead to a lot of noise and abuse of the platform for misinformation. I think some sort of verif

Why use this script as an include from the instant.page domain? I think if I'm going to use this I'm just going to serve this script up myself from my own servers.

I know what you mean. It is not a normal open source license and for commercial use it requires a $20 a year subscription per user. With that said, I believe all the core source code is viewable and auditable if you use the CLI version, w

Have you checked out duplicacy[1]? It's support for incremental backups is fairly unparalleled in my experience. It does not have the same limitation of duplicity. [1] https://github.com/gilbertchen/duplicacy

Exactly, my solution right now is to create encrypted backups of my raid-z2 FreeNAS instance (protected by a UPS) and then have a nightly cronjob copy the backup to a 4TB external hard drive using duplicacy ( https://duplicacy.com

Yeah, offset touchpads are a big thumbs down. Basically just look for the models without dedicated numeric pads. Fortunately those don't typically start showing up until around 15" form factors.

I love the look of the Librem 13 mentioned in the article. If it had 32GB of memory then I'd consider switching over. As is though, you'll have to pry my T480 ThinkPad from my cold dead hands. :-)

If you like duplicity you might prefer duplicacy [1]. I've found it's incremental backup solution to be far superior. The only negative might be the licensing, but with the free version you have access to all the code for non-co

Agreed, but these are planned events where you won't have connectivity, so you can copy the files to a local folder prior to the trip. I recognize that might not be as convenient as having the system perform a push to your machine to

I don't think so. The encrypted git functionality in Keybase operates differently from kbfs. AFAIK the encrypted git ability just functions as a git remote helper that doesn't use the local kbfs mount on your system, so you woul

You use the tool as it is intended. With Keybase if you are opening and working directly from the Keybase folder that is mounted then you are using it wrong, so your scenario wouldn't happen if you are using Keybase correctly. The poi

My understanding is they are focused on user growth and improving the UX right now. Also, I believe they could be sustainable without being as widely popular as dropbox. IIRC eventually they will have a paid tier for their kbfs solution.

I'd definitely throw Keybase in there as well. To me it has the easiest experience being cross platform, integrated with the filesystem, end-to-end encrypted, and having solved the identity proof piece.

Completely agree. I'm not sure why someone would choose Dropbox over Keybase nowadays.
