alexa and compete both say the lasvegassun numbers are headed downward. I am slowly coming to the conclusion that those services can't do much better than provide order of magnitude comparisons between sites.

This article is incredibly poorly written. Apple did a good thing by investigating their suppliers' practices. Why are they being "taken to task"?

"One of the key points of the sales pitch involved moving a positive review to the top of the review order where a positive review would stay for the duration of the contract. This was especially effective for completing a sale if there was

I agree, but there is more to it. A 50 year old programmer in 1995 likely finished their formal education in the late sixties. What are the odds that their education was actually in a software development related field? As an industry and s

Last year I wrote a paper on the history of Apache for a grad course. Frankly, it's not very good, but I was able to track down some decent sources and old quotes from the original list. http://adhocidiocy.com/JSteverman_Apache.pdf <

I think the intractable evaluation problem is salient for many other fields as well. A machinist might know a particular design can't be built, but may not be able to quantify why. I think it's certainly possible that the universe ends befo

He keeps saying that a cash flow statement is unnecessary but then includes it in his requirements? I agree income and balance statements are useless for startups, but a cash flow analysis will tell you precisely when you won't make payroll

When I was a teen my poor sleeping was because I had to be in homeroom at 7:15. In the winter we had already left homeroom by the time the sun was up. Just insane.

In tech companies market position matters. You can't just have everyone working on their pet project, because they all have to fit together to form a cohesive unit with adequate positioning and power. Except for the occasional market manipu

I live in a college town. Some census tracts get sub 40% response rates. At least 5k students in one college town not counted or counted in the wrong district. There are plenty of reasons to doubt census data.

He might have lent $20 million 12 times to get a total of $240m. 40% apr on 20m is 8m. 5% of the deals go bad which probably eats up a lot of the interest. And who knows what he pays himself and employees.

All objects have the same acceleration (g) but not the same gravitational force. Terminal velocity is reached when Fdrag = Fgravity. Remember F=ma, so Fgravity is (mass * gravitational acceleration).
