Reading code is harder than writing code. It is also not very fun. So when someone files a PR against your project, it means a bunch of not-very-fun effort. It also comes with a social obligation, because someone presumably put a lot of eff

I'm assuming you've read The Man Who Ended History by Ken Liu? If not I found it really good, if disturbing. (pdf: https://kenliu.name/binary/liu_the_man_who_ended_history.pdf )

Currently I've had mine about six months, but I rarely adjust the ball joint so don't think I put much stress on it.

These exist, look up Goldtouch. The two sides can't fully separate but they move far enough apart that I haven't had an issue.

Mice, as in things you drag across a desk surface, are a complete dead end ergonomically. Trackballs are the answer. I like the Kensington vertical trackball. The only thing that moves is your thumb. Those small precise wrist movements kill

Misleading to say Israel is in the lead when the stats don't count the 4.5 million Palestinians living under their control, none of whom are being vaccinated.

Oh yes you're right, mistyped! Actually the current status of this initiative is that it was voted into law by city council, rather than as a ballot initiative. So exciting times ahead! https://council.seattle.gov/2020&

Why care so much about fakers vs. real? Just provide a solid base for living for everybody, regardless of economic standing. Stop making people jump through all these hoops to prove they really need help. This is the same animating principl

There will always be reasons, often outside of peoples' control, why they cannot make enough money to afford housing. Your solution to this is - what? I believe that the fundamental necessities of life - shelter, healthcare, education

I don't think there's really a single thing I read that led me to this. I'll list off life experiences that come to mind, though: (1) I guess it probably started off back in 2015 when I read about Utah's "Housing Fi

Before this gets too big I'd like to say this kind of saccharine story, while nice for the person involved, does not give a realistic picture of homelessness. Homelessness is not caused by people not having a job. It is caused by peopl

Lyme disease is different from chronic lyme disease. The latter has little evidence.

And in turn this misses that chronic lyme has become a catch-all self diagnosis people have for chronic medical problems with no clear cause. There is not really much evidence to believe it is a real thing.

It's actually very common for women professionals to use a lower register when speaking to colleagues. People take them more seriously; they notice. I have several friends who do this.

The thing is $850m isn't actually that much money. The big exchanges made on the order of several billion dollars profit during the last bubble; presumably they are also making that much in this one.
