This take is really not crediting the different threat models motivating SSH versus HTTPS. In both cases the network is considered untrusted, but beyond this the analogy largely fails - almost every application of telnet risks leaking authe

Considering how Nvidia uses GPU RAM to segment their products between high end consumer GPUs (where the 4090 hasn't progressed at all from the 3090 in still having 24 GB RAM) versus the crazy high end ML accelerators, I've recentl

And, from a US perspective, that sounds absurdly overly dramatic and worrisome. The server is there to serve you, and the amount of money on the line is so comically small as to be hardly of concern. Sending them off with your card in hand

Lisp was the Python of its day, but more so - one of very few high level, garbage collected languages that were reasonably widespread. In Lisp you could explore data representations and novel control flows (search algorithms, nondeterminism

We do need to get that figure down. The US can benefit greatly from mass incarceration, if only we can get the costs under control.

Fascinating read - Ted Hoff is a true engineer's engineer. I hadn't heard of him.

That just spoiled the thing that had been nagging me for years now - where was that photo with the horse statue taken? Good excuse to fire that game up again, though.

Nitpick: You probably mean DVB-S (and S2, S2X..) rather than DVB-C, and you're correct that they don't employ OFDM (they're just a straightforward single wideband channel mostly employing variations on phase-shift keying), an

Here's a trick to read the bird site without logging in - whenever that pops up, pick your choice of "Log in" or "Sign up" (I prefer the latter, I like to imagine it helps to scramble someone's analytics) then

I've seen some interesting NES/Famicom conversions to PC Engine / TG16 in ROM collections. Apparently there are a lot more of them - here's a thread about how they were done: https://www.pcenginefans.com/

I look at the __init__ and initialize methods in the examples here and remember why I don't want to use either of these languages. What useless boilerplate, just to define a simple type.

People keep saying this (especially here, lately) but it's a nonsense strawman argument. People can do stupid and sufficiently unreadable things in any language. Further, at sufficient scale - a large, long lived proprietary codebase -

More likely the high end ML accelerators become so specialized as to diverge from GPUs. Carry on trying to use your gaming GPU for ML, with the knowledge that professionals are using hardware 100x as powerful.

The surprising thing to me is that 'char8_t' (a new C++ 20 thing I'd never heard of) is not just a typedef to char with all the same aliasing implications, but a new and distinct type to which the magic 'char' alias
