The most important thing is that you use an NDIR CO2 sensor. The best are in my opinion from SenseAir (e.g. the S8 that we use in our monitors). Then you can also get them from Sensirion, Winsen or Cubic. I believe for normal operations the

I believe that the Sensirion SGP41 is the slightly better VOC sensor and it also gives an NOx signal that can be useful: "The testing results show that the SGP41 has a better response for 9/10 tested VOC solvents and can detect th

Yes and to be honest, most of the air quality monitors use very similar PM modules. So often there is not too much difference in the accuracy of the monitors. I wrote about this some time ago [1]. However when it comes to data ownership, AP

We plan to compare more monitors. This is the first of this kind of reviews so we want to first see how well it is accepted and then do more.

In comparison to air pollution measurements of PM2.5, there are not many monitors out there that measure CO2. Last year we started experimenting with measuring CO2 outdoors with low cost sensors and saw promising results in the accuracy com

Last year I wrote a blog post [1] about different CO2 sensors and how they work. The best are NDIR (light) followed by photo acoustic sensors. Indoors they have very similar performance but outdoors, the NDIR (light) are much more accurate

First of all many thanks for helping to maintain such a great project! The feedback I have right now is that for the ESP32-C3 chip, provisioning over USB (Improv_serial) is not supported. So then the only option is to do provisioning over B

What I love most about ESPHome is the strong and engaged community. For our open-source hardware air quality monitors [1], a member of the community developed a sophisticated ESPHome integration [2]. His integration comes with all features

These are all excellent points that demonstrate the complexity of air quality measurement -especially for PM. We are planning many more articles like this one and hopefully step by step we can cover some of these aspects as well.

Yes that's a good point. We will look for more suitable photos to illustrate this better - ideally from the same city. We could probably use Chiang Mai, Thailand where our company of located and has wide annual swings of air quality.

It really depenends on the PM sensors you use. For the Plantower 5003 we use in our monitors, you only hear a faint noise from the fan when you put it directly at your ear. However some other monitors need an extra fan in the enclosure and

I believe you talk about the section about normalized RMSE (nRMSE). The nRMSE on the right side is 6% and thus lower than the nRMSE on the left side with 66%. The lower the nRMSE the better. So I believe the article is correct. However it&#

This post is part of a series of posts. We already wrote a few posts about sensor calibrations, e.g. how to develop a correction algorithm for temperature [1] or how to use R for making a linear regression [2]. In one of the next topics we

Achim from AirGradient here. Thank you for your support. Very appreciated. We are currently working on bringing a lot more features into our open-source firmware [1], for example mDNS, local API etc. to make it even easier for non-cloud con

I think what's often underestimated is actually the performance improvement you get from removing trackers. I did so 2 months ago for our landing page and it now loads 4 times faster [1]. Fun fact. All the tracking I removed I am not m

At the moment you need to flash ESPHome onto it (can be done easily via the browser) and then there is a well maintained ESPHome configuration script available. https://github.com/MallocArray/airgradient_esphome

This is definitely on our radar. At the moment we still have a lot of dynamics in the product, eg frequent firmware updates on the shipped units and this is why we currently prefer to ship directly. Once things are more settled down we will
