Nope, TCAS has always been based on secondary surveillance (i.e. transponders). Before ADS-B, it was based on Mode S. Air traffic control has used primary radar and even more primitive methods (position/speed/bearing reports over

I agree with the first point but not the second. Transponders enable TCAS and TCAS has saved many lives.

FWIW I've investigated disabling the connected features on my 2019 Subaru Outback. The relevant module is the DCM, or Data Communication Module. It is physically located behind the infotainment system (what was once called the radio).

Personally I don't like Mikrotik very much. It's just too easy to turn on some feature that disables offloading. I run Ruckus/Brocade ICX6610 and ICX7150 in my lab currently, though the 6610 uses more power than makes sense.

I wonder if we'll see some companies prefer the shorter supply chain over the lower price. Surely there will be enough business cycles for the memories from COVID to fade soon, but perhaps at least some of the military-industrial compl

Hey I was waiting for someone to mention DAPnet. Which pager did you buy? Do you run your own gateway? I have a Pilot AL-A26 which is a neat little device, but my example is filtered for 450 to 458 MHz, and on 12.5 kHz steps. I can get it t

Are people still using 10G in PROD? I thought 40G and 100G had generally replaced that. I have 10G cards in my homelab that are a decade old and cost less than $100.

Rails to trails is awesome. The Ohlone Greenway bike path in the East Bay takes advantage of the BART right of way. The Little Miami scenic trail in Ohio replaced a defunct railway with a bike and walking trail that is used by 700k+ people
