Yeah, maybe something like LORAN? Or maybe quantum gyroscopes will shrink in cost and size to allow totally offline navigation without references beyond a known starting point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_gyro

If you are having trouble getting 10TB of disk space from IT, you have bad IT. Not saying that's uncommon or anything, but 10TB fits on one external hard drive for $300 from Best Buy, or less than $1000/mo using EBS on AWS if you

This reminds me a bit of the Airbus patent for using bike seats on airplanes to save weight.[1][2] Of course it's a "good" idea in one narrow sense, saving weight on flights, but it's a bad idea in a few other senses, in

Nice one! I have hit something similar in the past around text input parsing. I bet that `e` notation for entering numbers has caused more bugs than it has actually been used as intended, at least in non-scientific code.

I don't really understand why anyone would use an "alternative" microblogging platform / social network that doesn't offer decentralization or federation. If you are okay with centralized, just go to the cesspool of

Wow that seems massively overcomplicated. Why not just do this comparison in the database layer (what he's calling the X layer, I think, although maybe it's the W layer)?

That sounds like ST. They make some really intriguing chips at good prices, but the tradeoff is that their hardware and software are full of bugs.

Interesting that the author highlights Telegram as associated with crypto bros and the far right. In my circles, Telegram is most known as used by whistleblowers and uncensored Ukraine war reporters. I suppose this is the obvious niche for

People want that judge to be recalled? So not only are people opposed to trial by jury, they also want the judge to be biased towards the prosecution? Why? Just the usual "tough on crime" dogwhistles?
