I think you're talking past each other. If you want to build a web-based spreadsheet application, you neither "progressively enhance" nor do you "gracefully degrade". Your browser is either a supported runtime or it's not. Sure, if you're b

The best discoveries of these startups, like in any industry, will be copied by the market leaders — the countries of today. That seems to be patently false. If better ways of governance really were infectious, governments would be roughl

I don't disagree with you on that point. Two books should be plenty. I'm only pointing out that there's a lot of utility in learning about JS as a programming language, completely divorced from DOM stuff.

I think people coming from most other languages that have objects get very confused about prototypal inheritance. The significance of first-class functions is also not obvious to people who don't come from a functional programming backgroun

This seems like a really easy way to dig yourself into a deep hole. Why not build a relationship with a decent attorney if you're in the habit of getting intimidating messages from lawyers regularly?

This is a really useful idea and gives useful more fine-grained information without compromising the overall message: "I'm slowing down." Along a similar vein, I want car horns to be as loud inside a car as they are outside, to ensure they'

Financial independence is the only independence in a patriarchal society. Dutch society is pretty liberal, so it may be the case that financial dependence on men does not impinge upon the sense of freedom and well-being for Dutch women. I

My interpretation of this is that Microsoft realizes that developers are leaving their platform pretty rapidly. As more developers switch to OS X or Linux as their main development platform, the whole Windows ecosystem will suffer, not just

I think it depends on the specific discussion. The front-page articles for the bigger subreddits are just too crowded to have any sort of nuance a lot of the time. But if you're interested in specific topics and are subscribed to smaller su

I'm not a very good K programmer, but no K example existed, so I posted mine: http://rosettacode.org/wiki/99_Bottles_of_Beer#K It fits in a tweet (exactly 140 characters right now ... but it can probably be shortened).

Yes, I agree. Maybe I was unclear above, but what I meant to say was that not being photographed was one of the main motivations I had for consenting to being patted down, despite the discomfort.

I refused last week. I got pat down pretty invasively. The TSA agent seemed rather embarrassed about it. The protocol says that when they touch private areas, they must point out that they're using the back of the hand, but being groped is

In addition to all of the UX issues that have been brought up here, there's also the problem of spaces in a user name. Sure, an algorithm could be written where the last broken up block of a string split by spaces in considered the password

I think the problem is on the demand side: its employers posting jobs with ridiculous titles. I don't think applicants are walking around calling themselves ninjas or pirates or rockstars.
