Slightly offtopic: the author says the background of https://hisham.hm/htop/ shows live statistics, that's not the case as far as I can tell, just 4 pre-recorded images shown successively. Ontopic: Quite impressiv

The test files are coupled tightly to the implementation. He says it himself that when he wants to restructure things new tests have to be generated. It seems clumsy, but I don't have strong negative feelings on it.

This is common in Haskell as well using `newtype`. You can have type aliases like type A = B but you can use the following function with a B: f :: A -> _ whereas newtype EscapedString = EscapedString String f' ::

How php is handled by Homebrew has changed last year. Now you do brew install php@7.1 It was my understanding that if you wanted in your PATH you just did `brew link --force php@7.1`. That's not possible anymore? (Since MacOS provides

To some extent this sounds like Spotify. I have been told it's basically Iframes stitched together, and each frame is owned by a team [0] , I do think Spotify has some better auth communication though. 0: https://www.quora.c

Can either you or your parent poster say what "short lived" and "longer-lived" would be roughly?

Conal Elliot was new to me, and he has great material! To cycle back to a recent good post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18306860 (comments there had this video posted as well)

I got distracted by the > const pad = require('pad-left'); Just curious, not much has changed since the left-pad issue a while ago? Not saying it's wrong though.

Previous discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12380671 There were some high profile sites affected by this by the way, I think it was Instagram where it actually went wrong.

Interesting read! It however does not shock me. That episode is, with your context, as much about truth for them (radiolab, living in US and trying to understand how they could produce chemical weapons) as about the truth of the Hmong. What

I don't mind it being used in some (mostly) 'closed off' service, but given how commit messages from git will show up on several locations it seems a bad idea to allow users to use `:art:` in a commit message IMHO.

If I understand it correctly it's actually from 1992. As for Applescript: how precise can we get with it actually? I think when applications use native toolkits Applescript can figure quite much out on its own, but with custom elements

I have a bad memory, so I would not remember this happening. Do you have an example? Also: why would they do that? If they already have the footage, and it is 'impressive' (for the trailer), why NOT put it in the movie?

Thanks for response. I edited my response to be less snarky. Good job and thanks for the moral of the story.

Does anyone know why such a "joke proposal" (as stated by the author itself) was chosen for pretty significant projects like pip and cargo? (edit: I tried to say it began as something small and personal) (Well, I guess there'

I was convinced this statement was also in the "Zen of Python" (PEP 20 [0]), but it's "only" in the official glossary [1] > EAFP > Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. This common Python coding st

I'm no frontend developer, so I'm unsure what technology actually is used by ReactVR, but according to [0] only Edge and Firefox support th e WebVR API, that was funny to find out. It worked on Firefox. [0] https://can
