Actually, it seems that google is now able to cope with things a bit better. I've just tried and I can now ask for "how long left on my 45-minute timer?" and it does finally answer. It actually also shows up in the UI. That i

And I’m always annoyed that it doesn’t tell me how long I set each timer to when I have multiple timers, just the remaining time, which makes it hard for me to know which is which.

Sort of. Earth's surface is constantly being recycled. Rocks from when life began on earth have all but completely disappeared. Meanwhile, rocks from or older than that are still completely preserved whizzing around the solar system.

What if both actions are equally valid? What does UI/UX theory say about that? Honest question here. I see how having two primary buttons would look ugly, but inducing the user to pick the choice they didn't want (because they wer

The difference is that hikers die quickly and they are lost, randomly walking around. This guy was not lost, so he probably had preferred spots where he'd like to go for food, water, etc. Besides, he made large holes and possibly made

Telnet is still in use for its primary purpose, which is a bit different than a locomotive which has been neglected to a tourist attraction. Your last paragraph means you would like to make telnet obsolete, but it isn't yet. As evidenc

Obsolete means no longer in use or useful. It's been argued in this thread that it's both in use and useful. But yes, there are more secure protocols that overlap with most of what telnet can be used for.

If you show an ad for a car that costs $100k to 1000 users and a single user buys it (0.1%) you still sold a car for $100k. Let's say it costs $90k to make it. You could pay $5 per ad displayed and still made a profit. My point is, th

That's indeed a bit of a nitpick. If you're working with maths, going back to your notes and reading them is really important. If your notes look like Sum(k,math.inf, (math.pi pow(sqrt(x),k)) ...)), it's really not great. So,

I think spot instances on amazon at least don't do partial hours, do they? So, you'll also have some wasted cycles there. Probably enough to compensate for your on-prem downtime.

It is cheap now, but think of it more as a loan. The price of being so wasteful will come for future generations who will have to deal with all our rubbish and all sort of environmental issues we've been causing in the past century or

Industrially washing the spoon may be more efficient than someone washing it by hand. However, that's not really the comparison here. Even if the step of washing the newly created plastic spoons (if that exists at all) is more efficien

I've worked with a yarn cluster with around 200 nodes which ran non stop for well over 5 years and still kicking. There were a handful of failures and replacements, but I'd 95% of the cluster was fine 7 years in.

I've been enjoying my experience with zfs this far. I just wish removal of vdevs was a thing for raidz setups. I could never fully understand why removing a full vdev that happens to implement raidz isn't as easy as removing a mir

My understanding was that, by bundling zfs and linux, you would be infringing on GPL and not on CDDL. Isn't it? If that's the case, Oracle wouldn't be able to sue them, that would be up to the linux developers.

The patent troll lost the case against gnome. Or rather, they've settled on not prosecuting either gnome or any other project with an OSI approved license. So, it's very likely that their patent was not even valid. If gnome had ac
