Are you sure that the perceived reduction in noise corresponds to a reduction in damaging sound pressure levels? I know about destructive interference in theory, but was always curious about the perceptual vs real SPL. Whenever I’ve tried A

I think 'well intentioned UX designers' who do this are in the minority, honestly. Or naïve. Per derefr and latexr's comments, it's a dark pattern with an ulterior motive. To your question, I'd say it's a false

This is good for security becuase you're giving temporary access for a helper binary to do privileged stuff in a limited scope. From the UX perspective, yes, it is triggered from the app. It's been a long time since I used the Cor

I wonder how that works when they are asking to grant permission for an integration with a resource gated by OS or browser, e.g. in this case location data for the Reminders app, or showing browser notifications. Is the deprecated path that

You could A/B test it. Add a 'not now' and a 'no' button.

I see your point, but I'd argue the opposite. If I say no, that's an optional feature that I didn't ask for, and no longer need to think about it. If I say 'not yet', it's one more thing I know I'm going t

Didn't that stuff start around 1998 though? That's when they started pushing USB and networking by default. And then OS X came along, with bash and Unix and all, and there was a lot of shared developer knowledge. But they still ma

Hey UX people. "Not now" says "I won't take no for an answer". It comes across as _really_ creepy. Let me say "no". And no, you don't know better than me about this cool feature.

That only switches within an app, not between apps. Unless you mean to find the full-screen window. And that doesn't work either. At least for Zed, Firefox and iTerm, where I spend most of my life.

That's almost certainly it. I'd probably searched for common fragment. And 'select all' does indeed select across all of the search result buffers. Thanks!

On the subject of surprising behaviour. I did something last week. I don't know what it was, but maybe some kind of fat-finger error. It randomly deleted 3-line chunks all across my codebase. No rhyme or reason. I was just about to com

You're right, I'm thinking of using the keyboard cmd-tab. So if I have two Zed windows and Firefox in front of one of them, I can't switch from Zed to Firefox and back to Zed without losing view of Firefox. Means I have to mo

I’ve not used windows since XP, but the one thing I missed was the keyboard menu navigation with alt and the underlined single letters. Still in my muscle memory, and I always felt like it was at least as good as keyboard shortcuts.

The app switching behaviour is really infuriating. Selecting a window and having all the app’s windows come to the fore, obscuring the window from another app is still annoying, 20 years on. And then when you full-screen a window, switch to
