Regarding the second point, although the proposed level may not be ideal, there should definitely be a limit of some kind. I'm all for legalization, even for recreational use, but there is nothing funny about impaired driving.

My (unique) passwords are always more than 25 characters, and it really irks me when websites place maximum limits on the length. Worse still is when they don't even tell you about the maximum limit, so you paste your 25+ character password

Indeed. Also, most people are risk averse, so they are happy to purchase insurance with an EV (expected value) equal to less than the premium simply to avoid the gamble.

I don't think violentacrez is using Reddit as a scapegoat. I think he's genuinely and understandably surprised by the outrage. It's that transition from being hailed as an Internet hero to being derided as a vile monster that has just left

I'm not sure I buy the theory about it originating in political discourse. It's a very basic concept. Changing your mind almost necessarily involves admitting you were wrong in the first instance — if you do not admit it outright, someone e

Beyond /r/jailbait being voted subreddit of the year, and violentacrez moderator of the year, violentacrez was an important factor in Reddit's rise to prominence. He drove a huge amount of traffic to the site in the early days with his porn

It's good PR for him, a chance to humanize himself, to explain his actions, and to appear somewhat remorseful. He's not some vile monster, he's just a regular family man who enjoyed a bit of Internet trolling in his spare time. He didn't do

It's a weird fall from grace for violentacrez. Redditors, in general, loved what he did. His subreddits were hugely popular; /r/jailbait was once voted subreddit of the year by the community, and he himself was once moderator of the year. N

That link is dead for me, but here's an article from The Telegraph with the same allegation citing "sources within broadcasting companies". Apparently Syria sought Iranian assistance to disrupt the signals. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/

It wasn't showing up in update manager for me on 12.04 LTS. Fire up Terminal and run 'update-manager -d' and it should show up.

I can only get it to show up in update manager as a developer release, with a warning that it is still in beta. This is using both the main and my local archive...

Yet it hasn't actually been released. The download links on the website all point to 12.04, and 12.10 is not available through the update manager yet either. Looks like Ars jumped the gun.

What I mean by not being able to talk about them is that you can't express your honest opinions. Most people probably think their boss is a jerk, that their colleagues are incompetent, that their company rips off their clients, so on and so

Screenshots of tiny thumbnail images? Most of creepy captions were hyperbolic if you hadn't noticed. The Internet is not, after all, serious business.

I'm not backing away from anything. I think the content on both /r/jailbait and /r/creepshots was, with only a few exceptions, legal and harmless. Neither subreddit was shut down because it was illegal or harmful. The former was shut down a

I don't quite follow you here. You're dragging /r/jailbait into the discussion because you think it adds weight to your argument. I'm saying it is no only irrelevant to the current discussion, but even if it were relevant, there was nothing

There were very few on /r/creepshots from what I saw. Making the discussion about creepshots one about "compromising photos of minors" is disingenuous and grossly misleading. I don't see how /r/jailbait is relevant to this discussion. viole
