So would search engines specializing on a certain field be the replacement? Search engines tweaking their code to a niche like astronomy, code (DuckDuckGo), fashion, classical music, etc. Because Google has started to fail as a general sea

I'm not quite sure how or why I stopped reading Slashdot. I think it happened gradually possibly due to MMO addiction and getting my first full time job as a wage slave. Then I met my girlfriend and got two kids which all ate into interne

Thanks for the reply. While I do have an iPhone I try to avoid iTunes (I used it twice to update my phone since I got it two years a go). The programming course does sound interesting though I could use a good course to supplement my self-

Minor nitpick on the article: Common Lisp is not a family, it's a standard with many implementations[1][2]. Common Lisp is a member of the Lisp familiy of languages, just like Clojure is. [1] http://www.cliki.net/Common%20Lisp%20implementa

Hm, I don't really like the tone of that article. He made some good points but just brushing Scheme and Common Lisp (CL) aside as "dead" made it hard to read the rest of article objectively. I'm not into Scheme but while CL isn't as popular

I am most impressed by the response to this crowdfunding campaign since I didn't expect it to hit the target so quickly (or at all). This means there are far more people enthusiastic about Common Lisp and SBCL in particular than I expected

I know making up your own titles in generally frowned upon, but this page did not have a good one. And a remake for one of the best games of all-time certainly deserves it!

One can take shortcuts in demos that one can't take in games. (And one can take shortcuts in games that cannot take in real simulations.)

Even with an iPhone you can make your calendar and contacts live on Google's servers. Not that's necessarily an improvement for some. For syncing contacts check the SyncInABlink app (no affiliation).

I've been using Common Lisp for quite a few years now yet I have written very few macros (although I have used a great many written by others!), however there's times when you need their power when nothing else will do. Also because you can

Being a Lisp enthousiast myself I often find those LISP elitists are people new to the language repeating the tired arguments we have heard so often before.

Just try it out. It's usually very obvious whether something is spam or not. That said, don't feel bad if your blog is interesting but doesn't make the front page. You might be just unlucky.

Since I recall you being a Common Lisp enthousiast: do you see, for example, ECL ever becoming a viable alternative for making Android apps? I've been exploring iOS using Objective-C and I'm about half-way done with my first real app for th

There's Firewall iP for jailbroken iPhones. Also one can install other browsers than Safari from the Appstore and, for example, iCab Mobile has the ability to use filters (and comes with some).
