Any idea what kind of speedup one could expect?

That's not a problem. Even a good thing and the BSDs will build one properly. The problem is how systemd came to be (through political games indeed of merit) and that it's not just an init replacement but that it gets its grubby f

The only thing I care about is whether there's an empty line between the head and body of the (Git) commit message. I don't care whether the lines are too long, whether they're nicely capitalized, whether they end with a dot.

Perhaps it's different in the US. Most job postings here in the Netherlands at least mention a salary range.

by aerique 11y ago
Exactly, I wouldn't consider a job posting that doesn't mention salary seriously either. It reeks too much of a job that wants to take advantage of you while paying peanuts.

Realize that what you mean with "to get used to this new OS" is possibly "I need to get used to this desktop environment / window manager". I don't know what desktop environment you use but it is possibly Ubun

It's a phase. I run into similar issues when using OSX while being used to Linux.

I think you underestimate how hard this is, especially since your suggested solution would be a maintenance nightmare. Also the problem isn't so bad to invest the non-trivial amount of time in it to fix it.

Actually, it is right what he did. Given how much dirt has been exposed do you really think there was another way to do this? What Snowden did is a prime example of civil disobedience: sometimes a country needs to be called out on what it&#

Thanks for writing this. People don't seem to realize how off-putting this kind of language advocacy can be.

Like /u/Sbn, I'd like to hear about the experiences you've gathered with these tools so far. I'm in the process of choosing one of these tools and I cannot find a good overview of all their features, pros and cons.

I've been using Unix (and mainly Linux) for 20+ years as well. First using bash, then zsh the last couple of years and I recently switched to fish. The switch was fairly effortless and it took maybe 2 days to not even notice the differ

That's why I'm so surprised this hasn't been fixed yet. I'll go take a looksy tonight to see whether the HN source code is available online.

I'm actually pretty sure I managed to upvote you on mobile, like I intended! Sorry for the strong language but I think it is nothing short of retarded that after so many years and so many complaints this issue has not been fixed yet.

Sigh... I guess I should have known better but I tried to upvote both parent posts but due to HN not changing the vote buttons for mobile for years now it might have been downvotes.

And breed they can! If a male rat as much as touches a female rat -even through the bars of a cage- you can consider the female impregnated. But, yeah, they're awesome pets.

Difference is that there's competition in the smartphone space and I can grab an Android / Jolla / Ubuntu phone where I can change my default browser. Apple did not have several years of monopoly behind it by burning away com

The default Apple supporter answer would be: "Apple has had these bindings for longer than the defacto standard has been around", but Apple would do well to get with the program and make the defacto standard as used by the rest of

It is actually pretty common knowledge that OSX has Emacs keybindings by default for text entry. (At least the basic text editing bindings, don't expect a full Emacs implementation and "M-x tetris".)

I'm not aware of the specifics anymore but by using well-placed NOPs when drawing a scanline you could make the borders disappear on the Atari ST thus getting a higher resolution. This was one of the many advantages the Amiga had over

I share your love of Gorecki. I heard him on the radio once and it was some of the most beautiful music I ever heard, so I ran out to buy the CD. I like some of Glass's music. Also his more monotonous pieces, but like almost every comp

I can only give you an anecdotal counter point but Lego is still fine. Instead of asking for a universal building set like I did, my 5 year old old son now ask for a specific Chima or Star Wars box and then we build the vehicle on the box.
