The key insight for me was that persistence should be opt-in—when I want a website to remember me, I take action to express that—the opposite of the current norm. I sometimes wonder whether Google was strategically preempting this paradigm

FontForge, despite its antiquated interface, and liberal use of ligatures: https://cloudflare-ipfs.com/ipfs/QmVMS6LFUEqJJdnXDVuVZWRDSHT... The biggest challenge has been keeping it legible while dense. Ultimately I’d l

Sigh, yet another site that contorts into an absurd distortion of a mobile layout at a still spacious viewport width. Am I the only person with two windows up? Screenshot: https://cloudflare-ipfs.com/ipfs/QmaovnEHiCo6kn

Yep it’s absurd. Similar issue with transferring music to the device; I can drop MP3s on it but the music player is oblivious to them. For photos I ended up scheduling a nightly SMB push to my NAS via a third-party app named PhotoSync.

Is that what that is? My perception has been that approximately monthly Firefox decides to interrupt me with a full screen “welcome to the internet!” popup. I’ve been using Firefox since it was Phoenix and in 2022 it decides to start doing

If you prefer you can preserve those individually with command line arguments, but I’d say that takes us out of the territory of “clear out all metadata”. What I’m trying to highlight is that an image’s literal metadata may include some dat

Re the last example, is there a way to distinguish between functionally extraneous metadata and “meta”data that is used for presentation? I wouldn’t want to carelessly drop e.g. image orientation or the color profile.

None of the issues mentioned under the section about iMessage? iMessage would be great if Apple allowed cross platform clients. Until then as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t exist. Sent from my iPhone.

I tried this once and marketing latched on to my deliberately stupid code name and used it for the public release. My protest was unable to sway them.

Precisely, thank you. It’s not about Kibana, or telemetry, or telemetry being opt-out. It’s about exactly what I copied from the page for lack of a deep link: the opt-out setting is deceitfully named opt-in.

Funny, RSI of a different kind is what pushed me to a minimalist keyboard. I pay the cost of increased complexity to avoid the strain of reaching distant keys.
