Great article! I will definitely reference it in my upcoming discussions. I had some hard time defending having an EU based o11y stack for our EU based infra. I found it hard to articulate on the spot that there are myriads of places where

I never had a proper job offer after 3 interviews tbh. Most 90%+ jobs need at least 4-5 rounds. I assume 3 is for startups

You don't see my point. The ideal solution would be something that can be learned easily by both the dev and infra side without having to boil the ocean on one side or the other. Something like protobuf was mentioned above which is a b

League is mentioned further above. That's 131 million players right there. It runs on a crap box too. It is a fact that having an old PC AND using Linux further limits the options compared to using an old box with a windows with extend

It still limits the selection, especially, if someone is into competitive games which often have anticheat sitting on the kernel. Which is crap, but it is how it is

Issue is that you do not want a dev learning hcl. Same as you don't want your SRE team learning next and react out of necessity. The ideal solution would be to have an abstraction that is easy to use and does not require learning a who

Yeah and let's take away the income from the PMs and Engineers and leave the people who actually call the shots unharmed. Once I worked at a place that actually made a calculation of how much an outage costed to the company and gave

My opinion is that these tools for most companies are the perfect footguns. How much time a developer will think about the right instance size, fine tuned IAM permissions, naming conventions or tags? I would wager a substantial amount that

I disagree hard with this. I love kubernetes to bits, but managing complex networking issues, having proper security, or just simply rightsizing the nodes is definitely not going away with having a managed control plane.
